My 68 Mustang FB

I purchased my mustang blind from the states back in 2004, decision was made from a couple of pics on Ebay, when it arrived, to say i got a shock is an understatement. I messed up, should have joined a club first and done my research prior to buying. 90% of the front end sheet metal was made out of cooking oil drums. I knew then this was going to be a major restoration. I worked on the car as much as my skills would allow and then reached a point where this would require a profession to graft and rebuild the whole car. i found someone who agreed to work on the car, he worked on it for a couple of weeks, cut bits off here and there and then just left it sitting in his garage for a couple of years until one day he called me and told me to collect the car and all the parts i accumulate for the restoration. i can’t remember what excuse he gave me but i wasn’t impressed. Car then sat in my garage until i found garage number 2, this guy came to my house to look at the car and then gave me a price to complete all the sheet metal and respray. i agreed and sent the car to him. Once car was delivered, he told me that he was busy with other work and that he will call me once he started on the project. A year down the line he called me and told me to collect the car and parts. His excuse was the car was too far gone. Would you believe he returned the initial deposit i paid him minus storage fees which i was not expecting. I then sent the car off to a major Mustang specialist with all the parts, He agreed to look over the car and parts and would advise what i would need to do. Anyway he called me and said my car was beyond repair and it would be best if i brought a Dynacorn shell. I could not afford a new shell and anyway, i wanted to restore rather than re-shell. i collected the car and parts and stored it back in my garage. As the car was beyond repair as the last so called specialist had told me, i decided to cut my losses and sell the car and all the parts. This was back in 2009-2010. i placed an ad on a mopar forum, had a lot of interest but one member asked why i wanted to sell, i explained and he advised me to speak to a guy he knows that restores mustangs, he had already sent him pictures. Because i was let down many times previously, i wasn’t holding my breath. i called him and he said my car was restorable, i explained how i had been let down before and he asked me to visit his workshop. i was amazed by the other mustangs he was working on and in particular one that looked worse than mine. I decided to keep the car and Phil King as he is known took the project on. This guy is amazing, he has done an amazing job and has been patient with me as i am not loaded and only pay him once i have saved enough etc. This will be an Eleanor which divides opinions. Apologies for rambling on, here are some pictures taken back in 2010.

these pics were taken after being delivered to Phil Kings workshop. i will post pics tomorrow of progress over the last 5 years.

regards

Re: My 68 Mustang FB

Good thing it's a fast back.....my car was in about the same condition other than my dog house is in excellent condition.  I don't think I will ever take on a project like this again.  Sounds like you got bit by an ebay a$$ h..e and that sux.  I hope you get it back together eventually as it is a very desirable car.

Re: My 68 Mustang FB

My car has now been pretty much rebuilt sheet metal wise and painted and now it's the final hurdle getting the wiring done, engine, glass etc in. Tbh I don't know how I managed financially but with the support of Phil King, my car is in a place that I could not imagine 5 years ago. Will post pics tomorrow and hopefully you will be impressed. Thanks for the kind words.

Re: My 68 Mustang FB

That is truely a project car. Finding the right shop can make all the difference. How does it look now?
