Our long neglected 66 Coupe

We bought our C-code 66 Coupe at an open air car show in Round Rock, Texas, mid summer 1998.  A hasty purchase showed us the error in not spending the time in verifying all the stated upgrades or repairs.  We barely made it home.  I wont go through the extensive details since it may step on some toes as I THINK the previous owner may lurk on the forum.

We were in the flood in Lockhart, Texas in Oct 1998, where the car was almost half submerged in water, and where our workshop is still, even though we live in New Braunfels, Tx.  This is where we found the advantage of self draining floor boards and a leaking cowl!  I decided to pull it down for a cowl repair, then found that the entire front end and brakes also needed everything.

I purchased Mustang Plus Grab-A-Trak suspension upgrade with all the extras, then did the Shelby drop.


Its dirty, its been in storage for a while but it should clean up nicely.


This the color going on now.

I just located a set of later model Mustang 15" wheels and really decent tires.

. . . .which should clear the Scarebird disk brake upgrade.

Future upgrades are a roller 5.0, or maybe a 331, depending on what comes first, eating or working on the Mustang.

I have never seen a Ford 15" wheel like that.  Sure they aren't 14's?  Would like to know what they came off of if they are 15" because it would be a good source to hunt down.  Thanks for posting.

Are you going to keep the CNG conversion?  What does it use for a tank?

I bought the wheels on Craigslist in response to an ad I placed looking for 15X7 Ford wheels, this is what popped up at a bargain basement price.  Couldnt ask for a better combo.  When I get a chance later this weekend, I will search the wheels for a DOT number or other ID.

The carb setup on the 289 is a Propane setup I pieced together.  In my prior life, I designed and prototyped LPG and CNG engine fuel systems and held engine fuel training courses all over the country.  I used them because the Edelbrock carb was ruined and I wanted a fuel that wouldn't wash down the cylinders while in storage.  The advantage is it started instantly and something I had in my parts bin.  It is by no means practical for the street.  For the purpose of moving the Long Neglected 66 Coupe around the garage and from the barn, I used a BBQ bottle.

The wheels have an OEM Ford number:
D10A-10070-AA
This crosses over to a 71-72 Mustang and a few Torino's, and is a true 15" X 7" wheel.
