tips for aligning bell housing

I'll be installing my engine and TKO 600 soon.

The engine is a 427 small block using a Dart block so it doesn't have any alignment dowels in it.

I know the procedure for checking that its aligned within spec which is a pain to do trying to get the dial indicator mounted and such but have to start somewhere.  I guess I can install some standard dowels and check it then if off get some offset ones.  Just curious if anyone has any tips or tricks to make this go smoothly and not eat up to much time.

I know MS installed a TKO600 behind his 427 stroker to so maybe he has an easy way.

I'm also running a quick time Bell housing.

Re: tips for aligning bell housing

I started with the dowels Ford put in my block and got lucky. It was within spec. I have a QuickTime too.

Re: tips for aligning bell housing

Always start with standard dowels.  Often they're all that's required.
