Re: When drag racing was fun!........

Ah the good old days. Brings back memories of weekends at the Pittsburgh International Dragway. I ran a 57 Fairlane with a 312 y block. Won my first race, beat a Jaguar XK120. I guess that's why it was called "International". Never one another race there but had a ton of fun. Also campaigned a 66 GTO with my cousin. Lap belts, no helmets, crazy but fun.

Loved my days racing but do not crucify me for owning a Chevy. It was what I had at the time and only $2800 invested.

Re: When drag racing was fun!........

Well 6sally6 it was early 90's I purchased the body for $300 body work and paint was $800 406ci small block engine carb to pan $700 Trans. $200, rear gears $75 wheels and tires $600. Most items were swap meet finds and some donated parts but all in I had about $2800 in it and it was a blast to drive. I will probably have $28k to $35K in the current build on the 70 Coupe. The days of the cheap builds are long gone!

Yer tellin me! In '65 I bought my rust free Fairlane ( in western Pa.) off a car lot for $200. Rebuilt the carb and swap in a 4:11 rear gear. Ran it competively for a couple years.
