Re: Beating overheating issues once and for all..

Glad ya got it sorted Gaba. Hope it's the 90A 3G you're getting ..... or planning on a twin belt system. I'm also not a fan of one wire alts ..... they don't do proper sensing of the cars charging needs.

Re: Beating overheating issues once and for all..

yes its a 95A 3G alternator that ties into the factory style alternator and operates the dummy light too. Install is underway.

If it aint broke, I have'nt tried to "Fix" it yet!

Re: Beating overheating issues once and for all..

I have done it y'all!!! I have beaten overheating finally after 5 years of having g this car!!! It's an awesome feeling as I finally don't have to worry about hurting the engine while sitting in traffic, and I don't have to sweat!!

Car is very reliably cooling now, and i even Sat in a drive through for 15 minutes or more idling .. with AC on and that too right after a highway run ... and the car sat there at 185-190 the whole time !! Loving it !!

So.. this is all that I did .. a more complete list as I found a carb leak after doing the fan and alternator

Carb rebuild , make sure engine was not running lean
Make sure the timing was correct (mechanically , with no knock anywhere )
Flushed the system with clean water
Went back to copper 3 core original style ‘65 radiator
High flow water pump
SPAL fan with probe in the radiator fins, and adjustable temperature relay harness
95A 3G alternator with harness that adapts to factory ALT light

Still tweaking the carb as you see in my other post, but , I have a good baseline now !!
