Re: Lock the hood

I'll post pictures tomorrow on how to do a 67-8 hood latches. Not sure about earlier models.

Re: Lock the hood

I had a simple cabinet lock from another project and used that for a hood lock. The original locking arm was discarded for a longer piece of aluminum so that it would reach a tab on the latch lever. I oriented the lock so that it would swing over and prevent the lever from going up far enough to unlatch the hood.
There is just enough room between the hood and the top of the grille to get a key in to turn the cabinet lock to the open or lock position.

Re: Lock the hood

It's too hot here today and I can find the modded hood latch or the disc that has the pictures butt on my '69 I took a '69 hood latch and a locking hood latch from a mid '80s Ford van.  The van latch will bolt right in butt the release arm is too short to be accessed in the normal way therefor I cut and spliced the two together.  Top half '69, bottom half van.  Cable is routed into the interior and the lock end mounted under the dash.  Photos were put on Photobucket.  They might exist in the old Forum.  If anyone can get in they should be there.

Re: Lock the hood

Mr. Mustang Steve, with all your inventions and add-ons do you have them all patent?

Re: Lock the hood

Maybe I shouldn't ask that question. How about? - How does one go about figuring out if it's worth it to get a patent on a product?

Re: Lock the hood

There was an article in Mustang Monthly several years ago on how to install an inside cable operated latch. They took out the original latch and put in a used junk yard assembly.
