I have heard the starters out of the Taurus will also fit.  Snatch the small case 3G alternator while you are at it.

No, but I thought about just that before I talked myself out of it, and picked an OE color instead.  It's Land Rover Discovery Challange orange.

The Race Pack dash showed up today, but being 107 inside the shop put the stops to any progress today.

The car has been disassembled in one shop, flat towed to another shop where most of the bodywork was done, then flat towed a mile away to my garage where I dry fit most of it back together before I drove it to the body shop.  Made it half way before the 8" center section gave it up, pushed it the rest of the way.  Then I moved 350 miles.  Twice.

So, when I set out to find the NOS doorhandles and locks I had previously installed, I was more than pleased that I only lost one PS door pushrods.  Reassembly has been fairly uneventful so far.  Hopefully it stays that way.  I've booked about eight hours of actual shop time in between my regular job over the past couple days, so I'll keep it up and start posting pictures.

My car has been a long running on again/off again project that has been afflicted with a huge case of WYAIT and an extended stint in paint jail.   Previous to that, I have owned it since 1985, and drove it 200k before getting in a minor accident.   This is the last good picture I took of it, three years ago:

I overhauled the engine since then, and now I have the time (and the $$$) to finally finish it.  I got invited to a Hot Rod Night at a neighbors house (he has a roadside hot dog stand that I ate at as a kid in his back yard he restored) on October 5th, and I'm super motivated to finish it this time (it's only got to roll a mile and a half under its own power), then spend all winter getting the rest of the bugs worked out so I can drive it some next year.

Will keep y'all posted.

I had 180 temps at all times and never overheated, I was in a parade a while ago with the Zirgo and the engine got up to 210 before I bailed out.

not to argue, but 210 is not hot.  Water doesn't boil till 212, if you have a properly functioning pressure cap and recovery system, you should be able to run water temps up to 250 and not have a problem.
After exploding my past flex fan, I drove my car for a whole without a fan.  In 100 degree temps in SoCal stop and go traffic, the car got to 220 a couple of times but it wasn't an issue.  Obviously I didn't leave my car idling in the parking lot.

My brother now owns my old XJ jeep.  He recently took the fan and motor controller out of a Volvo (it's the same fan motor as the Taraus but with a bolt on shroud) at a pick a part, and installed it.  It gets two miles per gallon better on the freeway than with the fan clutch, is much quieter, and actually cools better when he's out crawling.

Fan selection is really important, and most of the aftermarket ones are garbage.  The Spal stuff is okay, and the "adapted" OE stuff is best, IMO.

I had a set out of a 2002.  The lower buns are too tall for me to fit under the stock steering wheel.

For reference, I lowered the seat pans 1 3/4" ICIRC.

Steve:

Please look closely at the pictures of Novi Rick's shocks.  See the spacers on the mounting studs between the car and the bracket?  That fixes your shock too long/wheel travel issue.

Good luck with the thrash.

I use white Teflon tape w/ poly bushings.  Stays quiet.  Used some washers to shim between the bracket and the frame rail so the bar isn't pinched or bound up.

with rubber, I'd just install em dry.

FYI

the chemical  stripper works a ton better if you scuff the panel with sandpaper beforehand.  It gives the stripper a path to lower layers of paint.

In California, if you get caught with a non compliant can in the bed of your truck, it's a ticket to $500 fine from the Highway Patrol.  For each can.  I know somebody who got nailed with four headed to the desert to ride motorcycles.

At least in California, the letter of the law requires a vapor recovery system on anything that holds and/or dispenses fuel (the level of emissions from a small amout of spilled gas that has evaporated is surprisingly high).  Sadly, the solution doesn't scale well from a gas pump to a gas can, and my choices are to either break the law, or spill a bunch of gas filling up small pump engines we use to transfer materials on the farm.

The small 1/2 gallon can isn't too bad, but the rest of them are awful.

The small spring is a "tender spring" to keep the big spring under tension at full suspension droop.

At ride height, the tender spring is fully compressed, but under droop (like if you jack up the car) it expands and keeps the spring from falling out of the bucket or making weird noises if you go over a rise in the road.

That's HOT! Where I'm at I did the opposite of what Tmac did - I deleted the AC instead of deleting the heater. I've always got the windows open when I'm in the car, in the daily driver too, just like it that way and it's only ever been hot enough around here for AC maybe a couple of times a year. Stay cool!

Dont drive to Bakersfield in the middle of the summer!

That's correct.

a visa branded credit card has a $50 max liability to the holder by law (they never collect it).

a visa branded ATM card does not - it's a "fake visa" so the processor can fleece another 2% out of the retailer under the guise of "covienence" for the customer.  They can clean you out and who knows if they will take care of you or not.  There have been some changes over the years, but it's no where as good as the credit card protections for the consumer.

When the bank would issue me an ATM with no visa/mc logo, I'd carry one.  At some point they stopped so I stopped carrying one and switched to cash or credit cards only.  If I need cash, I walk in the bank and cash a check with the teller.

Mark I am sorry to hear this happened to you. Hope you get your money back. If you have a Visa debet I think you will but it may take a little time. Hope you have a good bank that will work with you. Two other thing I do to protect myself. I do NOT have a debet card, when I first got a Visa debet card and they told me it ties directly to my account I canceled it. I have a plain Visa card, I use it for everything as you do. The only difference is I can not get cash. The good thing is it is not tied to my checking account. I also go through my local credit union. They stop my card if they suppect froud. It caused me a couple hassels in the last 10 years blocking my card but I feel it is better a few hassles than some low life getting away with free money.

Well the thing that always worried me about using the credit card all the time, is that even though they may not be able to get cash, they can charge up to your credit limit, which is usually more than I keep in my debit/checking account.   and sometimes cc companies will let you charge more than your limit, and just charge you a fee for it. I also  dont want to get in deep with cc debt so i try not use them.

by law, your max liability is $50 if a credit card is involved.  Banks are pretty good at catching it because its their money.

When it's your money, not so much.

Sorry to hear about your situation.  I have not had an ATM card with a Visa/MC logo since 1997 for that very reason - happened to somebody else I knew back then and apparently it's still going on.

This car has either 16x8 or 17" wheels and stock wheel houses (class rules only allow for "stock" style suspension and minimal body mods).  it has 4.5 leaf springs and has to be pretty street able because its an endurance race car that runs on public roads.

That look like enough cornering grip for you?
