So thanks to all for the prior replies for the pinion seal answers. I followed the advice of ultra ...marked everything very well and went to remove the nut expecting great force needed...to my surprise the nut took very little effort....I used a breaker bar but could have removed with a socket with little effort. Here is the dilemma...if I put the nut back on and align to old marks it will be way too loose? The rear was quiet and the gears perfect when I bought and installed it(have only 50 miles on it since I bought it). I have read numerous online recommendations to torque nut to 125 to 150 foot lbs. Won't that crush the sleeve further from where it is now?? I prefer not to mess this up tomorrow when I put it back together!

Hello,

I bought a nice used 9 inch third member....3.50 and trac lok......it is leaking out of the pinion seal...I bought anew pinion seal and it seems straight forward to replace except for the fear of messing up the preload...I realize the crush sleeve is already "crushed" and have no intent to fool will it.....thus question is how tight to torque pinion nut back after seal replacement?

Hey all,

I am working on a 67 mustang...390 engine...the car would cut out at moderate rpm so the mechanic looking at it yesterday took a few plugs out and while turning the car over noticed they would spark ok, then not spark at all and then have a weak spark all within the same turn of the key. The car has a points distributor which is a new rebuilt, new cap, points, wires and coil....he is very perplexed...any thoughts?

Thanks tubo....I'm after an original so that the wires, etc will have correct ends and most replacements are either open design or have incorrect appearance such as studs sticking out.

So guys...I'm responsible for the initial post...getting the discussion going...so to point we have over 400 viewers and less tha 30 replies...how does one change that? Don't know...to steves reply...the fact that a guy is in this hobby and buys a motor of that caliber is awesome....frankly no monetary advantage intimidates me...it's a hobby..an interest wether one buys it done or builds it...it's an interest...the interest levels the playing field...so....I hope my observation is constructive..it never meant to ruffle feathers however some have felt the same...I love the banter, jokes...get it....question is how do we as a group..me included help each poster....Im 45 next week I'm now restoring my first car bought at 13 for a wealthy gentleman...I have a 65 fastback that has won 4 shows this year ( entered it for my five year old) did all but paint it...point is love cars, anything cool...restore gas pumps...I get the bond....just had a feeling that there is a priority given to the poster in terms of reply....hopefully this post will be constructive...I mentioned age as I live in northwest Arkansas and belong to a group named the donut gang all members over 65.....we see no age just bond...cars!

Hey guys,

I have followed this forum for years...contributed when I felt appropriate...it seems
From my observations that there is very little contributions anymore! If you are part
Of the core group sure...numerous replies....however frankly I'm gonna move to
Another as I rarely get a reply.....not real complicated questions either..
I have 25 years in the hobby and recently am building cars for people....I'm a jeweler

And the replies.....I feel this forum has run it's course.

Yeah....the fix for the ujoint is there is no fix in terms of a u joint alone it  is an 1100 series in my early 65 fastback v8 2v car....so fix is to cut off the driveshaft yoke at rear and install a 1310 series....then use a combo 1310/1330 joint....a 1330 series rear yoke won't fit the diameter of my early driveshaft....the shortening, yoke and balancing was only 85.00.

Well I finished my 9inch install into my 65 fastback...thanks to Steve (ultrastang) as I had read on his site
A few years ago that a 57 ford passenger car rear would fit...kept in back of my head and saw a housing
On cl here in nw Arkansas for 100.00. Then found a traction loc pumpkin for 300.00 with 3:50 gears..
Welded on Calvert racing spring perches....a nice big race car style fill plug and had to shorten
Driveshaft another 3/4 inch and presto!

An interesting experience...the third member had sat for unknown amount of time....I test drove today
And the rear would barely allow a turn or back up...I used Lucas synthetic gear lube says no additive
Needed....hmmmm....locker worked great in a straight line however corners another issue rear was nearly frozen I added the limited slip additive after a few miles and a few  burnouts and all is well. I'm guessing if a locker rear sits for a long time out of fluid the
Clutch discs get bound up (rust, corrosion?) ....anyway...regardless of what the gear oil says use
A modifier....easiest upgrade I ever did....detailed to the max......

Hey all,

So I just got my 57 passenger car 9 inch rear end installed.......what a great project...fit like a glove. Now I need the 1310/1330 ujoint to complete the install. Problem is I ordered the fms one from summit and I have an early 65 fastback so my driveshaft has the small 1" caps on the rear of the shaft. I thought I could simply use my old caps on the new u joint but the problem is the "machined stud" that the caps slide onto are 0.65 diameter vs 0.57 of my old ujoint......thus the 1" caps wont slide onto the 1310/1330 ujoint. Does anyone know of ujoints with one inch caps that fits onto a 0.65 diameter u joint stud?
Help!

Hello all,

I just purchased a pro comp 8 stack fuel injection setup on eBay....have a Barry grant six shooter now which is three deuces...want webers without the hassles. Question is....I bought it on a whim....the seller is
Pro comp themselves and had it listed for 3399.00 with an offer option....I finally got an accepted offer
Of 2800.00.......I haven't paid yet and asked some shipping questions and have been ignored thus far...
I rather not pay than buy a piece of junk with no support. The kit is turn key minus injectors.....anyone
Have any insight?
It is for sbf.

Sure looks like my 57 ford passenger car rear end......it's a nine inch rear. Probably put in yours to be narrower than stock for wide wheels?
