FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » How Much for your stroker Windsor Build? » 6/01/2026 7:07 PM
I just saw a U-Tube show with David Freiburger. He is using Promaxx heads on a 350 sbc. 185cc I believe. And I think I saw one by DAZE recently. He's using them on his 393 build. I, too, have heard bad things about them.
Go figure.

i went back and reviewed MS's and others posts about their walker quietflow mufflers, part No. 21856. This has a 19" body, offset in/center out, 2-12" pipe. The walker catalogue also lists part No. 21424, which is the same except for being 2-1/4". Unfortunately, the old tiny pic photos in the posts are gone. My installer thinks it's too long and I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to post a pic or two of their installation of either of these 19" mufflers. Thanks.
Might be too long. Try mounting them on the diagonal. That's what I did with the Caddies in mine.

I've special ordered custom brake lines from one of the brake parts companies several times with no problems. I just told them what connectors on each end and how long. They got them out to me in less than two weeks. Price was about what they would cost from a parts dealer.
Sorry, I can't remember which one. It was a long time ago.
Whoops! I always get stainless steel lines.

I have 4- leaf reverse eyes in the rear. ' In front, there are 1" lowering GT springs and Shelby drop. I love the stance.

IMO 165s would be too small for a 351 with a decent cam and free flowing intake/exhaust. IMO if you're going to spend north of $2,200 on a set of heads get a set of 185s. I have the 185 renegades on the 331 that's going in my '89 GT. That engine combination was the result of voluminous research, including talking to AFR and Crane Cams tech departments. I absolutely 100% did not want (an was adamant about this) an engine that was soggy down low and made a bunch of power on top. My previous experience led me to believe that a 180-190 head was a good option on a 350-390 CID engine, and might be too big on a smaller engine. What I was told was that the low lift flow in the AFRs was so good that I would not be sacrificing anything on the low end (and there was nothing to be gained from running a smaller head on the low end either), but the 185s would outperform the smaller heads once max flow mattered.
As far as how high you could rev that 351; it depends on the rods. Assuming you are not going to run into valve float, the limiting factor is piston speed. I've spun a 383 Chevy stroker to 6,000 RPM all day long, and it has a longer stroke (3.750"), BUT that engine has 4340 rods with ARP capscrew bolts. We used to spin LS6 454s to 6,000 under high load with factory bottom ends in speed boats and never had an issue, though the factory rods are forged and they use 7/16" bolts. So, in part its stroke length, but its also part material. I don't think I'd spin a stock rod 351 past 6,000; at least not very often. Now, if it had even entry level aftermarket rods, or a worked over set of stockers with good bolts? I'd probably give it a go.
I know that 185's are better than 165's. I only looked into them with a 'dare to be different' attitude. They are still better than my iron heads. My current engine has more than enough power for me. With age I have slowed so much that I let my wife do most of the driving (

Also, I wouldn't waste dollar one buying a 289 when you can get a 5.0 for the same price and immediately get an engine with a roller cam and better heads (even the E7TEs are better than the '60s era castings on a 289).
Fair enough but given the year that was posted it was on point.
The 5.0 supply around here is plentiful and prices seem quite reasonable. On the SBF head flow, admittedly these are just at 0.500" of lift, not the entire area under the curve, but E7TEs are close to the bottom of the heap flow wise. Explorer GT40p heads are near the top. And of course the old school 351W, ported with Shivvy valves in it is king of the 60's era Windsor castings.
RCode: Thanks for the info. I have wondered about the flow characteristics of all those heads. I see a lot of stuff about the E7 heads and not much about the others.
I have D0OE's on my 351 and am happy with them. I have port matched and removed the Thermactor hump in the exhaust. My mechanic also installed screw-in mounting studs for longevity. Cam is 218/224 - ,.512 lift retro rollers with roller rockers. Looking at the numbers, my heads would probably do even better in your list. I have been looking at the AFR165' as a useful upgrade, but I'm not sure of the gains would be worthwhile. (Looks and weight reduction are my justification.) I don't need more than 5000RPM. My hot rodding days are now limited to punching it on freeway on-ramps.

What about an Edelbrock AIR GAP intake?
Great manifold. If you have a 65-66 Mustang, it does not fit under the hood. Performer RPM does. If you have a 351W under that 65-66 only the Performer will fir.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Edelbrock Performer Manifold » 10/17/2025 1:46 PM
before you start tearing things apart. Do a compression check. Two things (and these actual values are just memories). The cylinders should have within 10 psi of each other. Pressure should be around 150psi.
Meet that criteria and you are good to go. Also. How many miles on the engine? Mine have gone over 200,000 miles with little loss of cylinder pressure. It's miles more than age that counts.

I use a 3/4" breaker bar with a deep socket that matches the lug nut and a short extension. No batteries in the trunk going flat and taking up space.

I have used Service Center Radiator here in Auburn, Ca, a number of times on my 4-core copper radiator. (530) 885-2282). They Have re-cored my radiator, and fixed tank leaks. I don't know if they do mail order. Give them a call.
A stock engine should be able to use a stock radiator, particularly up in cool Washington. My recollection is that the upper and lower tanks on your 2-core are wider than the core unit. You could re-core it to 3-core with no space problems. But my recommendation is to fix it. Easy-out, easy-in.

before getting a new radiator...Possible problems to check. Thermostat can be stuck. Radiator hose (lower) can be collapsed on the inside making it invisible to the eye. Radiator clogged. Look at these first.
When I still had a stock 289, I could sit in LA freeway traffic for an hour in 100* weather with no problems. That was a long time ago.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wheel studs » 8/09/2025 8:15 PM
Stock K-H rotors are two piece. Many after market rotors are one piece. Be careful. look at the studs in the image. they all are different, and all are sold as K-H replacements.
Sorry. I can't get the image to transfer. Just check yours against whatever you want to buy. The shoulders can be different.
FYI Ford, Classic Mustang Tech Discussion » Wheel studs » 8/09/2025 12:56 PM
wheel stud design is based on the rotor. (K-H rotors are different from later models) There are several different designs. Google your rotor year. You will get several responses. Check them out and buy the one that matches. Of course that means you must remove one to see what you have.
Don't just follow what someone tells you.
