Friend of mine built this for Bonneville. It has a 2.8 L Nissan engine/T5. Custom home built tube chassis. This is his third year and so far had run 141.3. He's hoping for 150+, I don't know if he ran today....no answer when I called them. Record in his class is 165 so he's got a ways to go.
Josh-K-Bob even got a little wrench time on this. He was here a couple of weeks ago and Alan (that's him in the blue shirt) called to say they were about to fire it up, did I want to come over...you bet we did. It had a bit of starter trouble and Josh jumped right in...actually, right under.
Thought y'all might be interested.

Looks sorta like my first car, a 63 Ranchero. Mine had a 170 in it and might have been good for 65MPH...
That must be a blast to live close enough to the salt to build something like that. And I cannot imagine going 165 in that thing!

We're about 300 miles from Wendover so it ain't exactly next door.
This car looks pretty good to me. Only time I went fast was at El Mirage in a little 140 inch dragster chassis. We had a 1932 "B" block 4-Banger in it. Went 149.5....what a ride. A couple of months later I couldn't get off work to drive. Another kid got in it and it went 166 that day. 'Til the day he died the owner said there was no way it went 166....but they had the time tag.

The 2.8L put him in the class he wanted to run, Sal. And the Nissan is modren and has quite a follerin' so tech info and parts are available. Also, they's lots easier to make run, and live, than say, a 170 inch Ford eye 6...wouldn't you think.
I spoke with him yesterday evening. He said he pulled 140 at mile 3 yesterday and it was really pulling hard from just over 6k. Said he went through mile 4 at nearly 6600 but they failed to get his time...pissed.
Anyhoo, he said the AFR meter was indicating around 11 which means it's pretty rich and he was heading into town to see if he could find a set of jet-sized drills so he could lean on it a bit.
I'll post his results if anyone is interested. He's hoping to go home with a solid 150+ run for this year. From there a little gear tuning might get him near the record.

Got-knee info about the "stuff" in the engine? What's his rear gear ratio? Wonder what the rules let you do to the engine?

I was doin' a little figgerin' and realized that I do not know the gear ratio. He said he has a 27" rear tire dia. but I never axed about the gerz.
As for the engine, I do know that it has a lot of head work, special pistons, stock rods I think, a whole bunch of cam (Allen ses it really doesn't start to wake up until over 4 grand), Oh, it's also running 14:1 compression and three webber type carbs...but not webbers.

That's a good looking little Falcon, so I'm sure he has a lot of work in it and that sounds like a fun thing to try, butt(TS)
with that grader blade frontend I'm surprised it would get over a 100 MPH. He's pushing a lot of air.
I used to have a 69 Grand Prix with a speedo that showed 140 MPH. One night in my wilder days, on a long stretch of X-way on my way home from work I saw it on 136. Darn thing wouldn't do 140!

Hey Mike, how's the project? Did you find the fuel problem?
I spoke with Allen today, he was on his way home from B-Ville. Leaned on it a bit and went 145.6 yesterday. Then today the course was real loose by the time he got to run this morning and he lost it at about 125. Didn't go all the way around but by the time he saved it he was off the course.
When you spin they make you re-tech and he figured that by then it would be really slick so it trailered up and headed for the barn.
Over all he's pretty happy. As for the garage door front end, I'm not sure what the rules allow in that class with regard to streamlining, but I'll bet he's doing all that's allowed.
Are we gonna see you in Tenn?
BB
PS: To keep all of this Mustang related, Allen has a M2 front in under his street Ranchero.

Getting squirrelly at 125 would sure scare the Bjeesuss outta you.![]()
The last few times that I've started the car up the FP worked fine, so not sure what the problem was.
It's looking iffy on taking it to Tenn. but the wife and I will probably make it there anyway, just may be in a Taurus

How you coming on your Mustang?

Our coupe is scattered through two garage stalls and the the shop attic and the body isn't even here. I'm hoping to have it back on the road for a cruise to Knotts Berry Farm in April for the annual Fabulous Fords Forever. Maybe.
The body guy is pretty much a one.5 guy operation and he got hung up on a Camaro he's doing a complete resto on for a friend of mine. He'll get serious on the Mustang once the chebby is gone. So far he has the mustang stripped and all the bad spots ID'd. New floors are in and the trunk is nearly rebuilt. I took the cowl out before I sent him the car but he's gonna put the new one in.
Looking forward to meeting you and your wife. No big deal driving the Taurus...we'll be in an F150. This should be a really good bash. Sounds like there are gonna be quite a few first timers including 65Vert (Barry and Leonie Kettleton from Brisbane, AU) who we became friends with as a result of the harness I did for Tubo...which he sold to Barry. Long story.
I'm really gettin' antsy.
