What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

I am hoping a car with 5 speed comes up when the time comes available but kinda was preparing to see what the cost will be to convert a car to 5 speed. I will be in he market for a 66 or a 67.

1. T5 world class
2.  bell housing
3.  trans mount crossmember
4.  clutch pressure plate throw out bearing
5.  MustangSteve pedal assembly adjustable cable  with power brakes will be putting disc on if it dont already  have them.

maybe some of my stuff will be salvageable if I end up getting car back in the deal....I will have to take the car apart to get to stuff.

Its really me....I fixed my caps lock .

That pretty much does it.  Speedo cable and drive come to mind, as does the engine plate matching the flywheel.

May have to shorten drive shaft.

Re: What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

Also a block plate, flywheel, clutch-flywheel dowels and bolts, pilot bearing, clutch assembly (not just the pressure plate), clutch release lever (if it doesn't come with the bellhousing), the cover for the release lever (goes on the outside of the bellhousing), reverse switch and harness pigtail for the transmission (so your backup lights work), shifter, shift lever, shifter knob, shifter boot, trim bezel for the shifter boot, possibly a starter and possibly longer flywheel bolts (the flywheel is thicker than the flex plate).  I've also seen some write-ups suggesting that using a C4 yoke in a T5 is a bad idea (C4 yoke blocks lube port in T5) but have no other information about that nor can I confirm whether it's true so you may need to have the yoke changed as well.

You'll need transmission fluid (Tremec recommended Dexron when I bought my T5 from Modern Driveline ages ago) and brake fluid too.  Also lines, fittings and a flaring tool to adapt the new master cylinder to your existing system.

Re: What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

Don't forget a flywheel.

Block plate for the bellhousing.

Given the likely age I would just have a new driveshaft made.  If yours has pitting, or any other signs that its not 100% right now is the time to replace it.

Shifter and boot merits some thought.  The stock T5 shifter is a POS IMO.  Get a Pro 5.0.  Downside is you'll have to cut the floor a bit for it to fit.  A Fox body lower boot works well.  The upper depends more on your setup (console, not console, etc.).

There's a little wiring to do as well.

Re: What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

Just something to keep in mind, I had purchased a complete conversion kit for automatic to WC T5. I'm not 100% sure why, but I had to use a starter (not part of the kit) for a automatic trans for my T5 conversion.

Re: What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

Generally the classic automatic starter works for the T5 conversion, but there are exceptions.  If in doubt a starter for a '92 Mustang 5.0 works great and is a factory gear reduction (lightweight/high torque) starter.  I paid less than $90 for a Motorcraft reman on Rock auto.

And possibly a differential gear change.

Re: What all is needed to convert a Automatic car to 5 speed?

The starter is determined by the flywheel.  If you use an early flywheel for 10" clutch, the early manual starter is required.  If you use an aftermarket or later style flywheel, the automatic starter is required. (Exceptions may apply on aftermarket flywheel, depending on when it was made.  Ring gear position is the key)
later style = 1982 or newer
