Is there anything else, or is this a drop in solution?

I'd give Quick Performance a call and see. That's their ad on Ebay.

I used that exact same carrier. Purchased it from them. Very happy with it. Great customer service. You should have them press the bearings on the carrier. I had to source them local. Same as a 9" carrier bearing.

I bought some differential items from Quick Performance and they responded quickly to the questions I had. I have to give them a 'thumbs up' for knowing how to pack a shipment so as not to allow damage to the merchandise. Not very many vendors care too much about proper packing.

You'll need the small headed bolts and washers and a bottle of the smelly Ford limited slip additive, and you're off to the races.

Just a few Dumb questions. Does your ring gear bolt up to this unit? Do you have to have someone set up the gears?
Thanks

The ring gear bolts up and you need to make sure you use the right bolts for the unit - I think they are different than the open unit. If you don't mess with the pinion, all you have to do is set backlash - however, to do that you have to spread the two carrier bearing housings to preload the bearings. This is often done after backlash is set by evenly tightening the two bearing adjusters. I made my own fixture with an indicator to measure the spread when I set up two 9" carriers. I found this guide on 9" setup to be very helpful.
I don't know what the preload setup is on the 8" but I found this link. The Ford shop manual is also pretty detailed.
Find a good driveline shop to set up the backlash and preload if you are not comfortable or lack the tools to do it right. Noise, excessive backlash, and premature wear are all potential faults of not doing it right.
