Steering column installation

My 65 Mustang seems to be missing a few pieces. I tried installing the brackets today that hold the column in place but there were no bolts in the top half of the bracket. Does somebody have a photo of what that should look like? Do the bolts screw into the bottom of the dash? Or how does that work?
thank you

Re: Steering column installation

The pedal support has two captive nuts that fit 5/16" coarse threads.  There should be a stud about 1-1/4" long that screws into those nuts.  Then they go through the dashboard flange, through the cardboard insulator and then through the U-clamp, normally topped off with a pair of self-locking 5/16" hex nuts.

When you put it together, put the studs in the pedal support first.  It is near impossible to get the studs threaded in from below because there are just too many pieces to hold together at one time.

The U-clamp has a tang on it that fits into a slot in the steering column so it stays clocked at the correct position.  The slot allows some vertical adjustment so you can set the column height so the horn contacts are compressed just the right amount.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Steering column installation

Thank you Steve!
i understand a little better what you were describing on the order of installation. I'll get some hardware and get started.
Thanks!
