Got a chance to get some more work done on mt EPAS build. Everthing is now painted and the rate pot is mounted in the columns upper switch housing, I almost bought a smaller 1/4 watt pot for that but there seems plenty of room for the one supplied by Bruno. I think the location which puts it right smack on top will work.I’m just waiting for a 70 amp mega fuse and some 8 gauge wire to complete the electrical connection once the thing is installed in the car.

Wait a minute! 70 amp Megafuse? 8 gauge wire? What is the normal current draw on that thing? Previous salesman's comments led us to believe those electric power steering units use about as much power as the stock radio.

At full hard lock it will pull about 40 amps but in normal operation just a couple of amps at most.
The reason for 8 gauge wire is that I'm sourcing the power from a trunk mounted battery.

Rudi...I wish you were my neighbor. Absolutley fantatstic work. I just wish I could do ANYTHING nearly as well. Please bring it to the Bash so we can all marvel at it.

Nice work Rudi!

Rudi, in my astonishment at the current draw I neglected to compliment you on your workmanship and attention to detail. I can only wish I built things that nice.

Thanks for the compliments guys.It seems the older I get the less patience I have to install the stuff I build. I get a lot of pleasure building but not so much crawling under tha dash or under the car.
Hell the car doesn't even need the O/E power steering changed, I just needed a project to get me through the winter.

Very nice work. Obviously you have been around those machine tools before !
Can't wait to hear how it steers!

Great post Rudi, you sure are making me want to get to work building the EPAS sytem for mine, I have everything (but time) to put it together, car won't be done for a couple years yet so waiting for your feedback on how it all works when it is installed.

So far every one that has completed this build in various forms has been more than impressed with it's performance.
I will have to wait till the spring when all the snow and salt are gone from the roads to give it a fair evaluation.

Very nice work, thanks for keeping us up to date w/progress and pictures.

Rudi really nicework. I would have like to try this if I hadn't already put P.S. in my car. Of coarse mine would not come out quite so nice.
