the plastic ones are such junk and I am tire of the rattling. I was wondering if you could install some 1969 metal ones and bend the tabs over

Me Too! I've had scads of them over the years. New ones only last 6 months or so.

Where do you find metal door lock grommets? CJPony lists the plastic ones to fit 65 thru 73.

Steve's got 'em from Drake, I think, and they do work on a 66. Much nicer.

CJPony has them too. A little pricey compared to other vendors but always free shipping. I found one house that had them for $6.95 but they wanted $13.95 shipping. Another house had them for the same $6.95 but had a $12.00 minimum order. I do not know how much their shipping charges were.
I'd like to hear from someone that has actually used them. Seems like there have been some different diameters in the course of Mustang.

My brother-in-law stuck them in our 66 during the final detailing last year. Door panels were already on and as I recall, he just removed the button and snapped the 69 type grommets in. Then replaced the button. Still in there, seem to work fine. Some may need the little tangs bent a bit but mine are okay so far.

The 69-70 deluxe intereior door lock chrome grommets work great, but they are designed to go into a thicker piece. You really need to tighten up the clips on the originals to get them to stay in place without a rattle. Maybe the replacements just snap in, which would work better.
When mastercrap painted my car, they used black rubber grommets like you would use to run wires through a hole in a piece of sheetmetal. Don't really like them but they seem to work just fine. A little bling, circa 1969-70, would look a lot better!

I have these. Look great and no rattle. Best choice.
