Re: got front end aligned after rebuild

Front looks good.  A little more caster would be good.  Is your rear axle bent?

Re: got front end aligned after rebuild

Steve
That was the most caster he could get.  he was running out of bolt length to put the shims in.  If I had adjustable rods he could have gotten more!
About the rearend, i never really looked at the spec till you mentioned that.  What can you tell me based on the numbers?  you asked if the rear axle was bent?  which do you suspect??  I replaced the drivers side a couple years ago as it was bent.  Is it possible I have some out of whack after putting the lowering blocks in??
The Tech never discussed the rear specs

Re: got front end aligned after rebuild

The rear looks to have some toe and camber that are indications that the housing may be bent.  Some racers will bend them on purpose to get a little negative camber but the toe doesn't help you in back (not positive on that).  The rear can be straightened if necessary - there was a thread on the old forum recently that showed a fixture, jacks and chains that can be used to straighten them.  I suspect that your biggest issue may be a little tire wear.  The toe and camber don't have any relation to the position of the axle on the springs - hence the original question regarding whether the axle is bent.  You may find that with the bend it is a little harder to get your axles out.  I am not sure how much bend you can have before you would get adverse wear on your splines.

Re: got front end aligned after rebuild

Wondering if he just had his tools mispositioned or if the axle housing is bent.  If it drives OK, I would not be too concerned, but keep those printouts to see what it looks like NEXT TIME you get it aligned.  If they are same, it might be off a little.  If different, it could be the axle is bent or there is just some tolerance int he positioning of the tools.

Re: got front end aligned after rebuild

I'm gonna stop and talk to the tech tomorrow.  I was talking to Corky about this and he thought the same thing that the housing might be bent.  Right after I got the car restored I found that the left rear axle shaft was bent and had to replace it.  Makes me wonder if at some point it took a hard hit or maybe the PO was doing donuts and hit a curb.  I have had that axle out a few times when I replaced it and then I had to replace the shaft seal last year as it was leaking.  HMMMMM things are starting to add up.  I have never noticed any scrubbing on that tire nor has anyone ever indicated that it dogtracks.
either way thanks for the info!!
