Engine swap

I have not researched this enough but i see these aftermarket guys getting dinged by the E.P.A. for modifying vehicles from there original design. Does that me that if I were to purchase a five  litre from a 2014 ford and installed in a 66 mustang it would need to meet all the emission standards of the 2014 donor ? This would mean no modifying  and you would need to runs cats also.

If its worth doing do it right !

Re: Engine swap

Depends on the state where you live. In many states, a vehicle is only required to meet the emissions standards of the year of the car. In other places, "antique" or "classic cars" more than 25 years old are entirely exempt from any inspection at all, including emissions testing.

My guess is that in OH you would not have a problem putting a 2014 engine in your 66. It might be different in CA.

Re: Engine swap

Maybe this helps.

"Ohio's vehicle test program requires emission testing for vehicles from 4 through 25 years old. The tailpipe emission test was necessary because only vehicles manufactured in 1996 and later were required to be equipped with a standardized OBD system for emissions testing purposes. In 2020, the vehicles from model year 1996 through 2016 will be tested. Because vehicles manufactured prior to 1996 are no longer subject to emission testing, tailpipe testing is no longer needed, and was discontinued on January 1, 2020."

Re: Engine swap

In Washington, we no longer have emission testing requirements. They did away with the program.
