Has anyone ever modified older cylinder heads to use the smaller diameter spark plugs?
I figure it would be similar to installing new seats for valves.

Why would you want to use the smaller plugs?

I thought of having adapters to do that as well.
The reason is for header flange clearance on older heads.
Another reason is availability of different heat ranges as well as material construction of the spark plugs.
I’ve never seen an article about modifying heads like this.
Compare 13/16” and 5/8” spark plug sockets.

It's commonly done on experimental airplanes using certified engines so they can use and experiment with plug heat ranges. They commonly experiment with ignition and fuel systems as well.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
