Is it just me, or did all the Mustangs Ford used in their early ads look like they were lowered to you?

I was thinking the same thing.

Those huge 14" wheels might have something to do with it.

Anyone else notice the Dome Light In the Mustang with the Guy wearing a cowboy hat SO Ford Did think about a dome light in the Coupe Neat. Not that I'm aware of for 1965 Mustang coupes I thought It was an option for later coupes.

Starting in 1967, I believe.

If I remember correctly, the base 65 6-cyl Mustangs came w/13" wheels, which would lower the car even more.

Apparently the horizontal bars on corral were deleted and a shiny grille too.
Look above corral and notice bracket of what appears to be the ultimate grille location on 65-66’s.
Just have to wonder how much test equipment was in the trunk on some of these clips. The hind end was dragging pretty low.
I recall hearing that the rear was lower to make it look like it was taking off or rearing up like a Mustang.

Cool video. They do look lower than I would have expected.
I wonder were they found the short cowboys to drive the car with their hats on?? The close up of him in the car with the hat on has his legs pointed straight out too. How many of us ride like that? It was a far back view of the other cowboy that got out of the car and walked around it. I could tell if he was sitting straight or not. Then there was the lady driving that was all dolled up for a night out. Her hair was nearly touching the headliner.
Then there was the business man that walked up to one and slouched over to open the door. I don't know if that was the same guy that slide into the seat. Makes me think there were some short folks factored into to make the car seem bigger than it is.

It used to be common practice at John Deere when doing photos for brochures, especially for garden tractors and consumer products. The company would get modelling people who were small but proportional anatomically
That way that the products looked much larger than they really were. Sneaky eh!

Kinda like when you take a picture of a fish you caught....hold it at arms length in front of you and then have the picture made....

I also noticed the grille horizontal bar delete was the shinny grille just a really super clean painted like stock 1965 Honeycomb grille?

Was the dome light really an option on 65-66? Anyone familiar with this dash trim and center console kinda neat.
I wish the retractable Hardtop would've taken off and the assembly cost could've worked out. I do remember seeing one of the prototypes for sale a while ago.
This is so cool what options did yall order with your Mustang when it was new?

Never bought a new Mustang...........didn't really appeal to me! (believe-it-or-not!)
I, along with 3/4 of America, crowded outside the FoMoCo dealership to get a look at the new Fords though. REALLY big deal back then.
I bought a(used) 64 Falcon Sprint 2 years later that had plenty of good options. 260 V-8 with chrome Sprint package......included AM radio and heater (yes, those were options!)
4 speed transmission.... optional BENCH front seat!( I don't need to tell you how sweeet that was to a 19 year old with RAGING hormones!)
Sprint hubcaps
The rest I can't remember....

Falcons are awesome there's quite a few for sell here in Salt Lake.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
