From what I have seen very few web sites can exist without advertisements.
They also have different levels of membership, if you want more access to content you have to pay, unfortunately a sign of the times.
Cheap bastard that I am I don’t upgrade to any of the forums I belong to.
This forum is unique as to being a very close knit, respectful group. As the membership grows so does the influx of -oh no I used a word I shouldn't have-#0(es most of which would not participate if there was a membership fee.
I wish I could help find an answer for this dilemma but it’s not in my wheel house.

What about using the XenForo? It's the provider / company that VMF uses. It seems to be a clean and relatively cheap (annual cost of $160 with an extra $65 if you want to be able to provide ability to post and see pics and vids in a gallery and posts) option for a modern forum host.

I would think.......we could raise--- 2 & a quarter---- once a year with the regulars on here.
Maybe mustangermike could write-it-off as a business/advertisement expense?!!
(at least we got a possibility we can talk about!!)

Sounds like an outstanding idea Mike. Let's get this ball rolling.

Sounds good.
I’ll just cut back my cigar budget….oh, wait, I don’t smoke. 😁

That mere $225 probably won't be the cure for our issue. Web development and management will be additional costs.
However, if $225 will be the only cost, I'll write the check.

I went to VMF and tried to join and see what it's like, turns out I was already a member (who knew). I'm a little torn, I like the style of this form but we do need pics. I also agree with what Daze said about links to this site. If were going to stay here I'll open an account for pics and share it. Either way, I'm in.

Keep in mind Mustangermike already pays for this site in entirety. It costs extra to have a site with no ads.
I think the cost is doable if we all support it.

I'm in to support it.

I'll support too.

And how did you post it, using what kind of device?

What is wrong with using two services to accomplish the goal? It's really not that complicated and the price is right.
For the forum, use what we've got.
For the photos, use " Just create an account on postimages. Then create a folder, postimages calls it a gallery, to hold the photos that are related together somehow (otherwise all of your uploaded photos will just be in one big messy pile). Then upload the photos into that "gallery". Once the images are there, when you are looking at the gallery containing your photos, you can use your mouse to point at a photo. A share icon will appear above the photo beside the trashcan icon. Clicking this share icon will provide you with the direct link URL for that photo. Copy this URL link to your clip board. Then when you're posting a reply here on the forum, you can click the image icon 3 places to the right of the smiley face icon. This will provide you with the box on the forum where you paste the direct link URL of the desired photo.

I did a quick search on youtube about postimages. Here's what I found:

Years ago I grabbed zilik.net to host my email as I was tired of switching internet providers. I have unlimited storage on zilik.net so I send my pics there and link them to forums I visit. Easy peasy for me, but not all have the knowledge to do so.
Granted it is not as easy as a site that allows pics, butt it works for me.

With imgur I can only post this type of link from my iPad,
On my desk top, imgur has a link that actually posts the photo, I’m away right now so I can’t use that link
Photobucket was great till they started ask for$$$, if you really want to post pictures there are ways although inconvenient.

Just a random photo... I took this photo coming down the road on Mt. Baker in Washington state back in 2007. I was on my Sportster. That was a tall bank of ice.

Another random photo. I snapped this one in Yellowstone. That big guy was fine until I stopped right beside him on my Sportster. He let out a deep bass snort that I felt vibrate in my chest. I just eased the clutch back out and moved on. No close up photo of his eye that day.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
