I have been installing the Exploder and GT cams at 4 degrees advanced. Since I have never installed one at stock position, I have no data to compare the results. More, the better! Right, Sal?

According to "alot of guys" that are suppose to be in the know.....advancing the cam timing moves the power curve lower.......in to the RPM range we can use most.
I installed mine 6* advanced and it sure seems to work better for me. (maybe cause I WANTED it to!)

MS…mine is straight up in stock 5.0L (‘92).
Now ya tell me!
This may help explain the benefits.

Stock values should have been calculated by engineers for use in a street engine. So if your engine is for street use then stock should be good, right?

Those engineers had to "try" and satisfy 'go-fast-guys'(like Lt Dan!) ......'rental car guy' wanting a racy looking car for the weekend....'grandma' that a slick car salesman put the hook in....'house wife babe' whose husband pulled a slick one on...'16 year old dude or dudess' whose Dad
is too "busy" to make a good decision....
compromise is the word that comes to mind!
I am very pleased with a snotty idling hi test guzzling 'machine' to drive to bashes and around town.
Others prefer something more............boring!
I grew up in the 60's when grocery getters came with 300HP in the family "barge"! Corvettes were a "nice little sports car" but..... a 427 sideoiler with a 4 speed and 4.10:1 Deeetroit locker was considered a fast car! (or a Hemi......or a 440)
My Mustang really reminds me of the old 327/365HP 'Shivel-lay' Vette.........the way it acts (or axezz)
Short answer is........define "street use"!

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
