Not a problem, just a question... ACC switch position

The other day I was playing with a new radio in the '68 and I got to noticing that it seems like everything is energized by the ACC position except for the coil. It got me wondering what really would be useful to be energized by the ACC position? Of course, the radio should be energized along with the cigarette lighter socket (and any other such outlets one may have added). But other than those two things, what else is useful to be energized by the ACC position. I guess the turn signals for when you need to test those. Maybe energize the heater fan though it's not too useful with the engine off. So what do you think, the radio and power outlets then what else?

Welp...............53 years ago that was the 2 MOST IMPORTANT things to work when the car was parked
Listen to the radio and light up a smoke!!
Now.........nobody(in there right mind!) would smoke in a high dollar classic Mustang and blue tooth/ear pods/cell phones and such make a radio......uhhhhhhhhhhhhh...mostly obsolete!
I can't think of any uses for   Acc (entertain your grand kids when asking about door locks and window cranks?!)

The speakers in my Mustang sound better than the phone, so even when Pandora is singing it's better through the radio to the speakers.  And the cigarette lighter can power many more accessories, like a GPS, than the old smoke stick lighter.

Power windows??  if you gotém, smoke'm as 6s6 might say.

My power windows and power top are always hot, don’t want to fumbling for keys in case of a pop up rain at car shows and such

Re: Not a problem, just a question... ACC switch position

The things you want hooked up to ACC are things you don’t want competing with the starter motor trying to get your engine cranked up.  So, anything NOT REQUIRED TO START THE ENGINE go to ACC terminal.

You may note that terminal goes dead when cranking the starter, by design.  So, your radio, heater, air conditioner, all that stuff that draws alot of current but are not needed to get the car running, should be connected to ACC.

I have my power windows and locks hooked to battery power so I can operate them without the key in the ignition.

Re: Not a problem, just a question... ACC switch position

There are four switch positions - ACC, OFF, ON, START.  Your post above is talking about the ON position and I agree.  I was asking about the ACC position when you turn the key counter clockwise from the OFF position.  I don't think the ACC needs to energize all the systems that the ON position should energize.  This is what I was saying.  I know that it does energize them, I just don't think it should be doing that.

This conversation is only a thought exercise.  Nothing more.  (Unless I get really bored some day and rewire how my car works )

You are correct. My brain inserted ACC for the START position. I think I should retire or something.
