    non mustang 1972 F100 question - brake pedal mount

    I know Steve knows a lot about the pedal mounts in fords.  I have a 72 f100 automatic with a brake pedal that makes a slight popping noise when pressed.  I have taken  the power brake assembly apart and made sure nothing was rubbing on the firewall.  I know the pot metal bushings still look in good shape but they do move slightly where they are staked in place. Is this enough to cause noise?   I have pulled everything apart and lubed everything with no change at all.  All nylon bushings are there and look fine.  Any suggestions at all?  Thanks!

    If it has the type of booster with a standoff bracket holding the booster away from the firewall, there maybe be rust in the pivot tube where the horizontal bolt goes through.  They can get rusted bad enough to where the pivot won’t move at all.
    Make sure the booster input shaft connection at the pedal bolt can move freely, too.

    Well its a Master Power brake conversion.  It uses a bell crank setup.  I took the linkage completely apart and lubed all pivot points.  The way it is mounted you can't see much.  I thought sure the connecting rod was slightly rubbing on the firewall.  The sound is like a threaded rod barely scraping across a metal edge but I can't see anything wrong.  Its just a sound but you can't feel it.  Pedal is smooth and brakes work fine, just very annoying if you are braking frequently.

    Just to let Steve know, after taking it apart several times the creek/popping noise from the brake pedal was the seal on the booster where the input rod goes.  It has a plastic tube housing that moves against a tight seal.  I put some silicone type grease around and inside seal and now finally quiet.  Its amazing how that sound transferred so loudly to the cab.
