Any thoughts on Windshield for 66 Mustang coupe.
Safelite has 2 available for $437. (Window only)
Looked on Kentucky Mustang site Carlite is listed but not available $233
Reproduction Windshield $170 Available
All are Tinted
Shipping From Kentucky Mustang is $200
Is there any difference between them. Car is not a show car so Carlite is not needed, but would be nice. Can make a day of it and drive to Kentucky mustang to pickup saving some money. Time is not an issue.

Years ago I got the windshield for my 68 from a local Speedy Auto Glass franchise. All that was available at that time was a tinted PPG glass but that was ok because the lack of a Carlite logo was not an issue. The price seemed reasonable IIRC, but I supplied the new rubber which I got from NPD.
You should check with local auto glass shops, could save the shipping costs.
While the car was in the glass shop I took the stainless trim home and buffed it up to restore the shine.

Six years ago when I was putting the Heap back together I popped for a complete replacement set of glass from (I think) Virginia Classic Mustangs. I bought the less expensive brand X stuff since the car is nowhere close to an "original" restoration.
The back lite and windshield are very good...nearly perfect. The door windows have a little ripple in them. Overall I'm very happy.
One thing I learned when buying from a local shop is to get a couple of friends to hold the windshield up and at an angle close to how it will lay in the car. Then look through it at vertical lines...board fence works well...to see if it distorts the view, especially at the ends.
I went through three to find a decent one for a Mazda 929 years ago. The jigs seem to go down hill through the less expensive manufacturers.

SC will replace free if vision is "impaired" through glass.
Had mine replaced a few years back and WHAT-A-DiFFERENCE in look thru! Tinted helped a lot. No-show car either so who keerz who makes it!
Point being.........There are plenty of replacement windshields out there......don't over pay because it is a 60+ year old car!
It is 'old-tech' to properly install it with the gooey caulk and stuff. My advice.have it put in.......

There are few installers who can successfully install a windshield SO IT DOES NOT LEAK. Do it yourself and be sure. It will save you numerous trips back to the shop to get leaks fixed.
WD-40 is your best friend for cleanup of the black goo. And masking tape everything around it to make cleanup easier.

I pretty much 'lucked-out' on my install!
Old-skool fella at the glass shop did mine.
He was sorta bent over......looked to be in his 60's....unfiltered Camel smoker....
It's been many-moons-ago in Charleston so he's prolly dead now!
"Don't worry bubba...I've done more of these old cars than I kear ta talk a boot".

does the dash pad need to installed before installing windshield?

Don't matter..............IF you're re-doing the headliner do it with the windshield out(rear too ideally)

Used this website and was able to pick up Windshield in Knoxville Tn. Only an hour drive from me. Windshield of course is Chinese made. DOT approved with Tinted band across top. I Installed it and clarity is good. Glass Just a little bit thinner than my scratched windshield which was a repop Shat-R-Proof. My cost for Windshield only was $125 Part# DW00654 Brand name TriVal
SafeLite quote was $436.99 glass only
Local Auto glass shop was $351 they install. Would not allow me to purchase glass only
Kentucky Mustang $170 for repop. It had part# W654C. Shipping was $200. They also listed a Carlite Part#5104 for $233. None available. Drive time for me to Kentucky Mustang was 4 hrs one way. I do not know, but think it is same glass as I installed.
I have windshield in. Only need to squeeze in the black goo
Thanks for help
