Anybody got an answer to.......

these...cheeseee-a$$ed...aftermarket armrests that fit a 66 Mustang???!

I have replaced mine 3 times I believe.
Some un-knowing/un-suspecting person sitting in the pass. side seat ...goes to kinda scoot-up in the seat and when they put hardly any weight on the plastic arm rest..........it snaps off!!
Anybody know if the factory/oem armrests are any stronger?
Anybody have a pair/or ONE they would like to part with?
Maybe BILLY WALTON has a couple OEM ones in his "parts car"?
Shirley.....someone has a pair of OEM ones on their shelf!!
Let's talk about it!

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

What screws do you have holding them on?
Should have as large surface area under the heads as possible to “distribute the forces”.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Yeah, Thanks.......After the first(or second, can't remember) I put a big washer under the head to do just that.
Were the "factory" ones made outta this flimsy stuff?

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Well, somebody has made a fortune making replacement arm rests because all the factory ones broke off.
Best solution:  Pony door panels.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Now that you're motivated, perhaps you could weld a strong frame that an upholstry shop could pad and cover to look exactly like the POS arm rests.  If you were motivated enough, I'm sure this is possible.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Well, since your armrest won't break, no repeat business so maybe only 1 rich.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

You know, as an act of rebellion against the weak ones, you could fashion one out of rebar and just paint it.  One of those would not break.  As a side benefit, it would probably discourage excessive pressure being put on it as well.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Or several strands of barbed wire brazed together.

That would really discourage lean on it at all.

Just sayin’ 😜

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Build a support for the door too. If you build the arm rest too good and you will break the door.

Re: Anybody got an answer to.......

Looks like I got it fixed!!
A dab of glue.....a lil bondo
Whoze gonna know!
I cut a piece of angle arn and screwed it into the door holes. Then I trapped my armrest underneath it with the black faux wooden covered vinyl cushion on top.
UNLESS......someone is giving it the 'hard-and-close eyeball inspection' it looks very FoMoCo stockish.

I may find out later just how strong it is. I might use it as a foot step when I go to climb up on top of the car to trim some limbs or.....maybe sit on the roof and have a picnic or sump'in.....we'll see!
After all I AM  Southern and we know how to party!!

Sounds like an official “MS Approved” fix, if there has ever been one.
