wiper goes moves backward

66 mustang with single speed wiper with washer pump.
without wiper blades install. I turn on wiper switch and the pivot points rotate and park. I installed wiper arm/blades and thought I was good. Tested wipers and they go backwards (Down) Not cross windshield. I had pulled wiper motor assemble and linkage with pivots out of car when I took car apart years ago. Could I have physically installed linkage wrong. When I look at linkage pivot point under dash the passenger side pivot has linkage at bottom with pivot arm in 5 o'clock position. Is this correct?  I have Painless wire harness and checked switch and and motor wiring per their instructions. Looks ok. If my linkage setup is ok I was wondering about swapping B+ wire with ON wire too see if motor would rotate in opposite direct. Want to verify linkage setup first before I pull assemble out. I am thinking this is my issue.
Any thoughts

Check the parked position of 17A436.

Re: wiper goes moves backward

This is single speed wiper motor from my ‘65.

Did you have motor parked before installing wiper arms?
From driver seat, my motor rotates counter clockwise and parks around 8:30-9:00 position.

Re: wiper goes moves backward

Yup...and I believe that if that arm were installed at 180 degrees from how yours is, Dan, it would do what he's saying.

Re: wiper goes moves backward

Even if arm is 180 degrees, it would operate normally.

I would suggest disconnecting wiper arms.
Verify motor rotation and is in park position prior to wiper arm install.

Re: wiper goes moves backward

I agree with BB if the motor arm is mounted 180 deg out they would run backwards. I don't remember if it can be mounted backwards. Is it a 'D' or Double 'D' on the motor shaft. Dan if the arms were put on when not in park that would be the easy fix.

Checked Schematic that John Ha attached. Swapped position of Arm 17A436  180 degrees.
Works like it suppose too. Now when you look at rotational stand offs, the actuator arms are at 7 o'clock

Thanks everyone

Re: wiper goes moves backward

Now that you got it figured it out you need to up grade to a 70's 2 speed wiper motor with delay. Easy upgrade.
