Almost got kicked off a Dodge forum yesterday! a little venting

A few of you may not find that hard to believe Lets just say the site moderator here is alot more lienient in policing the site and taking sugestions. Since I bought that 06 Charger, I found this Charger forum that has alot of great Charger info. Big site, tons of different catagories, loads of sponsors. I was looking to post to sell the wheels that are on the car to buy or trade for a set of Black 5 spokes. On that site, there is a 50 post min before you can post in the sell/buy section. Hmmn...I thought of a way around that...didn't see anything about swapping parts...so I posted a swap thread in the wheels and tire section. It was promptly deleted, which didn't surprise me. So I felt I should make a suggestion to lower the 50 post min in the for sale forum. I also praised the site for alot of good info. With that I got a PM that my thread was deleted, and a warning not to post critisism in the "Site News and Feedback", but to contact a moderator directly. If the guy that had deleted my swap post had sent me a pm explaining or not, I probly would have PM'd him back w my sugestion, but I had no idea who it was and didn't really care until I got the warning about my suggestion post.Talk about thin skinned moderators! If this site was anything like the Charger Forum, I'd have been kicked off a long time ago...and would probly have some good company! Anyways, Great job with this Site Steve! I believe you r the only moderator, but could be wrong. Thank you for letting us have a little slack in what we post here. this really is a Great Site! Looking forward to meeting some of you at the bash.

Boy, if they seen the way the guys were razing you about the wheels, they might try and shut down this place.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Yep, it's Steve, Daze and myself that moderates the site. Over the 16 month this new format forum has been active I think I've had to step in and use my moderator authorization maybe five times which I guess says a few things about the level of maturity here.

some of those other sites have a gazillion catagories, and hundreds of sponsors...maybe Steve should get some sponsors involved and he could pay you moderators

Re: Almost got kicked off a Dodge forum yesterday! a little venting

Getting sponsors involved means the forum owner (Mustang Steve) or moderators (Hakan or Daze) will have to put the kibosh on anyone (delete posts, threaten to ban members) that might have something negative to say about any of the sponsoring vendor's parts or service, lest the sponsors threaten to pull their sponsorship of the forum.

It's not my forum and not my decision but, I think things are best the way they are and have been here.

Re: Almost got kicked off a Dodge forum yesterday! a little venting

Like MS says - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This forum has worked just fine with the format it has (both the old one and the new Daze inspired one) for many years, for just those reasons. Good people who respect each other's opinions and are willing to share their knowledge of the hobby with no strings attached.

Re: Almost got kicked off a Dodge forum yesterday! a little venting

Maniac1  just in case you or others don't know.  This forum costs extra to keep those sponsors at bay.  Every year in October I believe Steve takes up a collection to help defer the costs of keeping our forum uncommercialized.  He doesn't beg for the money all year long just one month and it's kinda low keyed even then.  We all need to do our part to keep it that way! this is a great forum and some great people!!

I agree...I was just trying to be funny with the adding more sponsors bit. I've been told I have a Dry sense of humor. The other Dodge forum is free for limmited access, $24 and I think $50 for upper membership! I like this one the way it is!

My reply wasn't really directed at you it was more of a FYI or public service announcement. although I did name you.

Re: Almost got kicked off a Dodge forum yesterday! a little venting

Haken - I believe the 'maturity level" of this forum that you mention is why it works so well.  Other forums I've visted, or participated in, seemed to have a superior, or arrogant 'edge' to them that turns me off.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on.
