Electric vacuum pump to assist power brake booster

Anyone have success using an electric pump to supplement or replace manifold vacuum when using a brake booster?
I have a cam that produces insufficient vacuum ( about 7 inches at idle ) to reliably operate my power brakes, and looking for an alternative to replacing the cam.
Have a 65 Mustang with 4 wheel 04 cobra brakes with MS install kit and MS roller pedal and booster assembly.
Brakes work great sometimes after building vacuum while driving, but at low speeds power assist goes away very quickly.
Tried adding a secondary vacuum can as additional supply, but provided only limited assistance.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

If I was in the same situation .... I'd consider a hydroboost conversion.

You didn't say what tranny you're running, but I have about 6 inches of vacuum at idle with power brakes. I'm running a t-5 and always downshift when slowing/stopping and have good assist. The only time I lose assist is when navigating thru parking lots but then I'm going slow enough that it's not needed.

Re: Electric vacuum pump to assist power brake booster

Been there...Last year I built a street/track 408 Cleveland... With a Comp Cam spec'd cam of 240 ish duration...650 ish lift..7 inches of vacuum... the C-6 shifted like crap and power brakes were non-existent...I installed a 19 inch Summit vacuum pump...that corrected the power brakes but did nothing for the shifting problems, plus I couldn't stand the electric pump sound any more .To make a long story short I was disgusted, and with a few back and forth phone calls with  Comp Cams they  took the first cam back they spec'd and built me a second custom grind billet roller...all new specs NO CHARGE...I can still turn close to 7,000 rpm.... shifts great and the Power Brakes are where they belong...now I still have a street /track car I can comfortably drive on the street...I must say I'm extremely happy...Thanks Comp Cams......jj

Re: Electric vacuum pump to assist power brake booster

I to had 4 wheel disc brakes and MS pedal conversion and was not happy with the braking performance.  Just finished converting to Hydroboost and the brakes are fantastic.  Used booster from 1995 Chevy Astro van, Tallon Hydraulics adapter plate with a 2003 S10 master cylinder.  This combination clears the shock tower on my 66 Coupe.
