Hey hey
I have a question regarding the wiring on my car . The car is a 1965 fastback.
When i bougth the car there was a new piece of wiring with it for the headlamp feed, but i can see that the new piece of wiring for the headlamp feed is for a 1965 car with gauges. But my car is born with warning lights instead of gauges. My question is if i will be able to use this wiring that is for gauges on a car with warning lights instead?.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Your car came with warning lights...now you want to change it over to gauges..or visa versa YES the wire it self will be fine as long as you are using a volt gauge. Amp gauge ? check wireing requirements with manufacture..or are you asking if the headlight lead wire is sufficient for both headlights and gauges ??...I would install a headlight relay kit to minimize the draw of amps on the headlight switch so it doesn't burn up......jj

I'm on the road and do not have the OEM Mustang wiring books with me, but I believe the wiring with and w/o gauges is different. With that being said, the wiring for the headlights is the same. So, when you say a "new piece of wiring for the headlight feed", do you mean a new complete wire harness, or just one section of wire?
Just to complicate things, I believe the firewall bulkhead wiring harness on the driver's side is the same for both the gauge and idiot light applications ... not sure if this is true for generator vs. alternator installations.

The headlight harness also incorporates the plug that goes to the voltage regulator, and the wire than controls the GEN light comes through there. The gauge type cluster does not use that wire.
I am not familiar enough with the different versions to know what else is different, but that is one thing. For all I know, the harnesses may be interchangeable. Take a look in a major Mustang vendor's online catalog and see if they show different part numbers for them. I'm sure some minor mods could make them interchangeable, but you need the wiring diagram (free online) to verify.

MS - regarding the wire you mention to the alternator (from ignition switch), I installed the gauge cluster from a 66 in my 65, wiring harness and all, and this wire exists in this harness. Maybe they used the same wire for both applications (?).
