Hi Guys, this is John.
I have been trolling around the site for several months and thought it was time to introduce myself. I was looking for a reasonable cost way to install disc brakes on my car when I stumbled across the site. I have worked on all my cars for years cause I’m too cheap to pay someone. The car is a 67 Mustang Coupe with a 390 and a four speed. It was secured to the floor for a time while I was working on the floors, passenger side fire wall, and the aprons on both sides of the passenger side shock tower, hence the name.

John,
Welcome to FYIFORD. You will find a great bunch of helpful people hang out here. I hope you enjoy it. Since you are in Houston, be sure to check out the annual BASH info. A couple of other guys from Houston will be making the drive this year to Nashville/Franklin, TN.
If you have it unbolted from the floor long enough, maybe you can make it! I am in the same boat right now...

Welcome John. And even if it ain't unbolted from the floor there's no reason why YOU can't be at the Bash. People required...old Mustangs optional.

Hey John! So did you come to any conclusions about how to deal with the brake modernization? I stumbled onto the site in similar fashion, but Mustang Steve hadn't put his brake solution out there like it is today. I ended up putting on the Granada spindle solution in front, and a home-fabbed 97 grand Cherokee rear disc setup on back. No kit or instructions for the jeep conversion. It helped that I have a bud that was essentially raised on a used car parts yard, junkin' his way through his formative years. It wasn't his first Frankensteinian fabrication. Everyone should be so lucky as to have a friend like I do. And on that note, that's essentially what you've got here. A group of big hearted folks that enjoy tinkering with their projects and happen to be willing to share what they've learned over the years with people like me. Don't know what I'd have done without this "gang of good guys!"
Given the opportunity to do it all again, I think I would install Steve's kit and call it a day! He's a very "engineering-minded fellow" who stands behind all that he sells. Welcome!

Morning Guys,
Thanks for the warm reception. The car has been released from its bonds of the garage and rolls on the tires again. It still ain’t drivable.
Lance, I will be using the Mustang Steve brackets, I just haven’t ordered them yet. I did manage to find calipers, brake hoses, dust shields, and brake pads for the front as new take off parts from Roush, I think. Found front and rear rotors as new take off parts on Ebay, like $30 a set. Shipped by USPS in an “it fits, it ships box”. Now that I had dug more through the web, I’m not sure if the calipers and rotors will interchange since ford upped the size of the front brakes. My car has disc brakes on it now, but it is all toast and need to be replaced. I have since discovered that a PO had installed 70 or 71 spindles and disc brakes on the car. I have a good lead on where to pick up the correct spindles for the drum brake spindle/hub assemblies. I just have not followed through.
I understand the thought process for not using the late model non GT rotors on the early model hubs due to weakening the early hub by metal removal. How hard would it be to adapt an early spindle with 2 bearings to accept a late model hub with the single bearing? Food for thought!!
The pics are coming; I started on a thread for the Pictures and History section last night. Give me several days to get it completed. I need to add more pictures to my phootbucket account. Yall may find out more about me than you ever wanted. The rest of the day will be spent on a bathroom remodel. Happy Motoring to All.
edit - didn't like the way somrthing looked.

Sounds like you are prepared, even to fix 6sally6's car.
I wish more new folks would post an introduction like you have done. Now I feel like I know you, rather than just another post.
