Seat Belt hole on Door Sill Plate

1966 Mustang Coupe

Anyone know of a good way of locating the seat belt hole on the door sill plate?  Should I drill a hole before I install the sill plate or after?  How could I locate it accurately to avoid drilling a big hole or messing it up.  I want to make it look as clean as possible obviously.  I was thinking of removing the seatbelt, completely installing the sill plate and then trying to mark the hole location somehow.   These things need a little bit of massaging and bending to sit right so I mark the hole before hand I'm afraid it may be way off.

Re: Seat Belt hole on Door Sill Plate

I'm also confused, the seat bolt hole is on the vertical portion on the interior side of the rocker panel.  The sill plate should not interfere with the seat bolt attaching point at all.

Re: Seat Belt hole on Door Sill Plate

Make a 3” square plate out of 10 ga steel.  Drill 1/2” hole in the center. Weld a 1/2” nut onto the plate so a bolt going through the hole engages the nut.

Drill 1” hole in the side of the vertical rocker panel. Weld the plate to the rocker with the nut fitting through the 1” hole.

Or something like that...
