This 1965 coupe started as a T code car we bought for $800. It ran and drove but was in need of everything. It was supposed to be for my wife and restored stock but that is not how I operate. I found a supercharged 351windsor and a C6 for the coupe. I put a 3200 rpm stall converter in it, MS power brake conversion, hedmann hedders and a radiator out of A big block mustang. I then went to the MS site and got directions to open up the core support for the bigger radiator. I am currently in the middle of performing the mini tub conversion. I have everything cut out in the rear including some trunk panels that were not in very good shape. I installed the crites leaf spring kit last weekend. Good thing I did, I was wanting a big tire- turns out to keep it in the confines of the wheels wells I can "only" fit a [url=tel:295-50-15]295-50-15[/url]. I also got a galaxies 9 inch had it rebuilt with 3.70 gears and a trac-loc. I am now thinking a should get rid of the C6 in favor of an AOD. I probably will. Left to do is everything. I work on it as the budget will allow and anticipate driving it in about a year or two.

That looks like it should pull it down the road nicely. I think you would like the overdrive. I have a 4.30 rear end with a 5 speed. Rpms are a little more than I would like on the highway, but still bearable.

I am mini tubbing a 67 coupe, my rear was already narrowed, but I narrowed it some more, and relocated the springs inboard with a highy modified Crites Kit.

I about have the tubs done, and ready to move onto putting the roll bars back on, and hanging the rear.

What size tire are you planning on running on the rear? I was hoping for a 295 / 15 but think I might have to go with a 275 to start to make sure I don't go to big. I think they look so much better with a big tire tucked under.

dildargee, can you post some detailed pics of the highly modified crites kit when you post your work in progress thread? I'm researching all my options for mini tubbing my green 67.

The crites kit and mini tub project is not too bad of a job. With the work I did on mine I have 13 inches from inside wheel well to the fender lip. I could fit an 11 inch wide tire if I get the back spacing worked out. The one thing I wish I could do is narrow the 9 inch width. It looks like I'm going to need to order special wheels with about a 6 inch offset. I'm sure I will work it out and I will post what I did.

Ps...you might consider replacing the rear frame rails for straight ones. They go wide toward the rear and replacing them might get you more room.

Work continues, here is a picture of a sail panel patch. While doing this I removed the drip rail chrome and found the passenger side badly rusted. Looks like I will be replacing it. Does anyone make replacements.? If not I will be hand forming it.

Took the back window out and found the lip rusted on both sides.

Here is a picture with the patch tacked in. The other side looks the same.

Here's a picture of whats left of the back end. In this picture I do have the filler panel tacked in place. With winter setting in, this is about as far as I got. More to come in the next few weeks.

Proof that the coupe is getting worked on! This is my youngest son we affectionately nicknamed "meat" welding on the the sub frame connectors he made in his welding class. Turned out very nice. Next will be the under-ride traction bars in the coming days.

Today I finished welding the subframe connectors and under ride traction bars in. Next I will be cleaning up the underside more getting it ready for primer and undercoating. So far so good!

Check this picture out...my son removed the jack while the mustang was on 3 jack stands. The side with no stand didn't even drop! This shows you how well subframe connectors stiffen things up.

working on the Shelby drop.
. Here is the results...painted and ready for new suspension pieces. This turns out to be one of the most rust free mustangs around. Other than some quarter panel rust, that is it. Underneath is beautiful.

Ok, I've got the disc brakes installed on the rear, and all the suspension(front to rear) is all brand new. I will be shipping it off to paint in a few weeks. My son and I came up with a scoop for the air cleaner. This is the pattern made out of cardboard. I want to raise the back about 3/4-1" . We are trying to get it knocked out so I can cut the right size hole in the hood. Well I wasn’t able to send it to paint quite yet. I flip houses on the side and my flip hasn’t sold so I’ll have to wait! Such a bummer. I was hoping to have it painted by spring.
