What’s the trip for installing the headliner, windshield out, windows still in take advantage of?? Specifically in a 2+2

$500 for the one piece headliner from Mustangs to Fear was some of the best money I've spent. Can't hep ya with the stock one.

Sorry BB II, I have to stick with the original version.
Spent the afternoon over at the shop wrestling with the Dang headliner. You really need to attach the rear for the first before stretching the headliner throughout the rest of the roof.

Searching on the YouTubes uncovered "Sam, the upholsterer". Sam's secret is a steamer and glue. Perhaps the video inspires something or perhaps not...

Tubo - I'm not sure what year your Mustang is, take a close look and you'll see that the headliner fits under the windshield and rear window seals. One needs to remove both glasses to properly install the headliner, and reinstall the glass with new seals.

Having installed headliner one time in one of these cars I would tell you doing it with the glass out is the only way I'd feel comfortable attempting it. I know there are some guys who can leave a strip of the old material along the edge of the glass and glue the new stuff to that and tuck it behind the weatherstripping, but I ain't that good. The headliner was installed before the glass at the factory.

Good clamps are a must for this. I used ones that weren't really right for the task and did some minor damage (probably that only I can see, but it still bothers me).

Leaving the screws in for the various things which mount over the headliner is a great way to find the holes later.

Hate to 'rain-on-your-parade' butt.......
I spent the best part of A DAY working on mine (a coupe as you know)...and cut it too short !!(trash)
I bit the bullet and let an upholstery shop do it and had the windshield replaced at the same time.
One piece headliner may be the least expen$ive and least headache&backache&knee ache&arms ache&ego ache approach.
I couldn't do it today. Finding a shop may be a challenge too

BobeE; This ain’t my first headliner install, on Miss May (6 x MustangSteve Calendar Car, month of May, hence Miss May) October 1964, build 2+2. I knew there are instances of headliner installs w/o removing rear glass. And I’m loath to pull the rear glass.

I had all the glass out when I did the headliner on my 68. Made it a lot easier to do as I had to glue the edges and hold them with clothes pins. One thing I recall as important was the two wire pieces with hooks at both ends that set the dimension for installing the first support rod so that I knew which holes to use to get the liner tight and positioned correctly. I've never done a fastback headliner, but I imagine having all the glass out would make it easier to do a good, tight install.
