Front suspension upgrade

has anyone ever tried to put the front suspension from an 89 mustang into a 68 mustang.  How much fabrication is involved.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Front suspension upgrade

I'm sure someone has but since it doesn't seem to be a common swap, it probably isn't easy or doesn't work that well...or can't be done at all.  Why do you want to do that?  Properly set up stock suspension/steering can work amazingly well.  If you are planning  to go road racing there are a number of  aftermarket parts that will serve you well and without having to re-engineer the whole project.

Re: Front suspension upgrade

I think it is a can and should you CAN do it but probably SHOULD not.  Here is one link that I found http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/483487-68-mustang-fox-body-front-suspension.html  .  It depends on what and why you want to do this.  A well sorted out original suspension can out-shine a Fox conversion.  You are limited by the width of the car which limits any suspension much less one grafted in from an entirely different car.  Plus, you are doing major surgery to the frame/unibody.  For the 68 brakes are available, racks are available, and are essentially bolt-on along with a host of tubular and adjustable bits that also bolt on.  It would help if you could describe what you are trying to accomplish.  If your intent is to install a 514 stroker motor and you need the remove the shock towers this might be an option but a Fatman kit might be a lot easier.  Other than that I can't see a clear advantage of the Fox suspension over a fairly well designed orignal system.  Unless you really really want the Fox suspension - then have at it, take lots of pictures, and enjoy.

Re: Front suspension upgrade

Well, I was trying to put in a power rack without spending the big bucks to buy a kit.   That appears to be bolt on front suspension and I have one that I can use.....  So I could save a couple of bucks.

Re: Front suspension upgrade

Fox is Not readily adaptable.
Better off buying an aftermarket R&P made for a 65-66.

Re: Front suspension upgrade

The key is that the Fox is not a bolt on front suspension - not even close.  There are some recent threads on DIY racks that you might search as well as a DIY Borgeson type.
