Well, it's in...

When my son took over the 66 coupe project last year, he was determined to put IRS in it.  Well, he did it.

He picked up the assembly from an 03 Cobra Terminator last winter, and has everything mocked up.

Re: Well, it's in...

Looks like he did a nice job Tim. Did it need to be narrowed, or did it fit as made.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

That looks great.  Pls post a lot of pic and details on how the swap was done.  Daze is into this and it would be great to get his input.

You need to leave the rear valence panel off so everyone can see and appreciate it a lot easier

'66 Fastback since July 27, 1981. Springtime Yellow, originally a 200 cu in, 4 speed. Also a '92 LX Coupe, 5.0, 5 speed.

Thanks, Walt.  The setup is 03 factory width.  As he plans to autocross it, he wants to have off the shelf parts available, as opposed to custom made everything.  Brackets were fabbed to attach the cradle to the torque boxes, and rear frame rails.  The vertical rear mounting points were shortened a couple of inches to go for the lower stance.  The original 03 spring/shock stuff is abandoned in favor of coilovers, attached in the wheel arch of the frame rails.  Frame rails are reinforced.

Re: Well, it's in...

There was a time when you could buy the entire IRS assembly from Ford for $2500. I almost bought one for my '66 fastback, now I really wish I had.

Your son has created a really nasty track car stance there. Can he raise it up so the lower A arms are horizontal for street driving?

Drag race guys are removing IRS to install solid axle rear ends.  You can find IRS for less than half the Ford price.  For the pic, he lowered it as low as he could with those roller wheels n tires.  The coilovers have a couple inches of ride height adjustment, to make it streetable.
