Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Well, since he already spilled the beans, today is my 38th wedding anniversary so I got Sherry a new car. Too bad she doesn't drive a manual trans.

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Nice car.  Your wife should be very happy unless she wanted an SUV!:-)

As to lighting - you are shooting in dappled light.  The whites get blown out and the darks go black.  Try shooting when it is cloudy or sunrise/sunset.  The colors come out better as well as the reflections.  Also, shoot at an angle to get better reflections.

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Congrats MS!

If she won't drive a stick after 38 years there's probably no hope now.  Mine actually drives one more than me.  Wow, now that I think of it she has had 3 daily drivers that were all stick, whereas I've never had one.  Damn!  I suck...

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

I think you guys missed the facts...
The car is a 2017 GT350.
It has a six speed manual.
Texas is a community property state.

I am telling you... Stick is the only way to go dude... My car is not exactly a power house, but I can light up the tires in first, squeal the tires in second and chirp the tires in third. A word of advice though... Don't do this sort of driving with kids in the car. They have a way of letting their mother know what dad was doing

See ya soon,

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Congrats!      Just an FYI.   My wife always finds the right place to mention I went to Farm n Fleet and bought a tool on her birthday.   She also claims I once bought a chocolate cake on her birthday too. (she is alergic to chocolate)  I do not remember that.   But they sure do!

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

With a Coyote Mustang on the 1320 a manual box will never better an auto, it's a proven fact.
Also for road courses, the paddle shifters equals never a missed shift.
Manual transmissions are as out of date as generators and points ignition.

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Let's do some math:

New blue really scary fast car + new house(without enough garage) = selling old blue scary fast car (?)

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Shelby GT350 only comes with six speed manual. This is a Voodoo engine, not the wimpy Coyote like my convertible had.
Sold the convertible
Selling the 68 coupe
Replace with new 2017 GT 350. Lightning blue with white stripes
That equals one less parking space requirement.

Of course, keeping the 66 fastback.

At some point in the future, I may get rid of the MKZ and Ram R/T, replacing them with one vehicle that will still pull the boat.   Rear wheel drive for sure.

As for the sound of the Shelby.  It has dual mode exhaust. Idles stock until 4,000 rpm, then opens to straight through mufflers. Or you can flip a switch on the dash to get full time sport exhaust.  Either way it emits a sound even 6sally6 can totally appreciate.  The flat plane crank makes it sound totally different up to the 8,250 rpm redline.  I sure would like to have those same mufflers and sound on my 66.
Suspension and braking is like nothing I have ever driven before.  (15" Brembo brakes).
And the seats give me some much-needed incentive to lose a few pounds.

Maybe the aftermarket will come up with a turbocharger package that can be added on. It could be called the Witch Doctor.

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

The question needs to be asked ---  which car will find it's way to the Bash in FWB; The new GT350 or the 66 with the 427?

I've got to vehemently disagree.  Any day of the week they want to drop off an automatic and a manual version of the same car at the dragstrip and give me a day to run both of them I'll disprove that statement.  I won't sandbag the auto; I'll run them both as hard as possible given the constraints of street tires.  The bottom line is that a manual will always beat an automatic in the hands of a skilled driver who knows the car.  You can't go by magazine tests, etc.  Those tests are run with guys who, though skilled, have a very short amount of time to run the car.  Your 60' time in a drag race is everything.  If you can't get the car out of the hole you will never run a respectable 1/4 time.  That's the hardest part of racing a stick car.  Once mastered though the fact that a manual trans car is lighter and reacts faster gives it the win.  I was always able to post better times than magazine tests once I'd gotten the hang of driving the car.  I'm talking stock for stock, not shaving time with mods.  Best magazine time I ever saw for a stock WRX was a 14.80, whereas I ran consistent 14.50s.

On a road course the manual trans also has benefits.  You should never miss a shift on a road course.  You shouldn't be powershifting, etc. there's no need or benefit.  But at times feathering the clutch does come in handy.  Years of riding dirt bikes taught me how to do that, and once mastered it cane shave considerable time off your laps on the right track.  I've driven the paddle shift cars from the new Mustang to Porsches, etc.  Still waiting to be impressed.

Some things have improved with time, but there's still no substitute for a real manual trans with a skilled driver.  The newer automatics are giving a better illusion of control to less skilled drivers, but its not the same.  If automatics were so good they'd be used in racing, but instead you have sequential shift manuals, sometimes paddle shifted, sometimes not.  But beyond the technology there's still gears riding on shafts and a clutch disc between the trans and the engine.

Re: taking car pictures (lighting issues)

Meanwhile in the old part of the world  we are a little bit behind and have to work on the old stuff as this 50 year old Shelby GT350. Helped a buddy of mine to weld in the rollbar, sorry for the bad phonepics:
