Hagerty Insurance free towing service?

Anyone used the Hagerty insurance free towing service?  I know it's technically not free b/c it's $45 a year but it's unlimited towes within 15 miles.

Anyway, I need my ride taken to an exhaust shop to do the custom exhaust install.  The lady said that I could use the towing service included with the insurance and claim it was an emergency if I didn't feel it was safe to drive.  I only have shorty's installed and with an EFI system the o2 sensors are exposed along with a lot of wires in and around those every hot fumes so I truly don't want to drive it w/o the exhaust installed.  Option A was to drive it to the exhaust shop w/ essentially open headers Option B was to pay to get it towed there for about $250 and Option C was to use the included towing service w/ the insurance.

Anyone used the towing service included w/ the Hagerty Insurance?  How did it work?  Did you have any problem from the tow truck people?

Re: Hagerty Insurance free towing service?

I have not, but I would ask if you can specify the type of towing service. I'd only use one that has flatbed vs a traditional tow truck.

Also can you not just slap some header mufflers on it and drive it down?

Re: Hagerty Insurance free towing service?

The car is not legal to drive without mufflers. Hagerty should cover it. Before I put the old cars on Hagerty I used Allstate to tow cars to various shops.

Re: Hagerty Insurance free towing service?

I've used it twice, once for daily driver and once for Lorries little Fiat, the nice thing about it, is I have 125 miles of flat bed towing on anything I drive or if I'm driving with anybody else. Its a little more than $45, more like $125 but worth it to me.

I got a pair of shorty headers on there but with an EFI system that means all that hot exhaust is going to go straight into all the wiring.  Assuming the 50 other issues get resolved I imagine it is driveable with just the shortys.  I've run the engine with just the shorty headers to verify good run but never driven it w/ just the shortys.

And the towing service is flat bed only.
