Reminds me of some of the hack jobs I did in high school!
When you have nothing to lose, you get the job done with whatever you have laying around.

The most important aspect for the project is the rattle can of "High Performance Enamel.
That brand of paint alone is a must for a silky smooth shift.

I love this kind of stuff. I live in this world of limited budget. There something to be said for taken your God given talent as limited as it may be, and accomplishing something useful with it. I've done my share of stuff like this on cars I've owned. As my life progressed my talents increased and so what I do now is not nearly as scary as it was 50 years ago. With next to nothing for money and no parental supervision it's a miracle I servived my early driving and racing experiences. This stuff is the basis of hot roding.

I like the ideas like the tails shaft swap on the t5.

I agree If I had unlimited funds I would buy everything new.
Never have the funds.
But I can darn sure fabricate a simple cross member from $15.00 dollars worth of steel

My 1st crossmember in 1993 for the T5 looked pretty close to the one in the video.I used what I had at the time. As time went on money grew and I was able to purchase a proper crossmember. The car did not go any faster or feel any different, it only looks better when on a lift. When I think back on some of the jerry-rigging I did when I was in my teens it makes me cringe.

I actually pick stuff off of my neighbors trash for the metal to fab stuff out of. In the process I've scored a portable generator (used once) and a pressure washer.
