More F100 work

Mostly disassembly of the interior. Preparing to make a new tranny hump that will allow for future maintenance / tranny removal.  I stopped counting holes and screw holes in the firewall that need to be welded up when I got to 150.  No telling what the history of this thing is, but so far have found ZERO rust!

Note the hole in the floor where the PO cut through the main floor crossmember to gain access to his underfloor corvette master cylinder.  I have designed a pedal support and pedal to use 2018 Mustang GT booster and master cylinder. Also has the 14” front and 13” rear discs from the same car.

Oh, the interior color scheme was in it when I bought it. Might not look bad if dyed a single color, but will likely get 100% replaced with something more boring.

That interior looks good enough to lick.
The steering column seems to beg for an EPAS.

Re: More F100 work

Are the pills on the dash responsible for the PO's interior choices?

Boy, that tuck-and-roll takes me back to the 50's!

not many 56's without rust - at least in the lower rear of the cab.

Pill bottle contains the screws for the defroster duct trim piece I had to pay $125 for on ebay.  The parts that are not reproduced can be expensive!  The reproduction parts are not bad.

Love the in-floor battery boxes all the trucks used in the 50’s.

Re: More F100 work

Like the door panels.........the overhead (and rest) not so much.  WHY.....did he go with the under floor MC? Hadn't they put them on the firewall by 56?!
Really a clean truck...........nice find.
You sure make it look easy!

PS  I have it on good report..........those 'spoon' shaped gas pedals are KILLER on your foot after about 30 minutes. My pal Larry changed his out the first long trip he took in it!  They look killer butt they are 'foot-killers' fer sure.  Jus say'in!

The 56 had the pedals mounted to the frame, not the firewall.

Sally your buddy just might have a bit of whimpy in him All the miles I've put on my 69 have been with the arm only, with no foot issues. I've even driven it with flip flops. If I can get motivated I'll attach a spoon pad to mine. Just sayin'.

On any trip longer than an hour or so I prefer to drive without shoes, goes back to when I used to fly my home built, always socks only.
Size 14’s tend to get bulky and the real estate in the foot well of a Mustang is limited, looks like plenty of room in the truck.

Re: More F100 work

That gas pedal is being replaced with a billet hinge style pedal mounted to the floor. I used one like it on a 54 I built fir a customer and it worked great. I do not like having the exposed cable and linkage like the existing. Plus, ergonomically, it is in a bad position.
With the floor mounted style, all the linkage goes below the floor.

I am still debating on the underfloor battery. I want to simplify maintenance items on the truck. Having to unbolt a carpet sill plate and remove the carpet to access the battery is not good. Plus, the truck sits so low, the battery box is barely 6” off the ground.  I am considering a firewall mount or somewhere under the hood where it is easily accessible, while still looking good.

MS I can bring a wheel barrel and use it to cover the tranny.

Re: More F100 work

Please don't "clutter-up" the under hood of that sweeet truck with a bat-tree stick'in out in a shiny tray!  Bunch of different ways to hide the battery (in a box) and still be convenient.

Re: More F100 work

I put my fuse panel and all electrical stuff under the floor mat on passenger side. Carpet is cut out with an access padded panel hinged for access. Works great! Floor mat hides it, no one knows it is there and access is so simple. Just kick passenger out, lift floormat  open panel and all fuses and important stuff is right there and you can actually see it standing up. Put a little extra padding around it to blend in.

I like the idea of putting the fuse box under the floor!  I was just doing some “thinkin” about a better fuse box location than underneath the dash. The PO had installed painless wiring, but the fuse/relay box was just hanging by the wires up under the dash where it is impossible to get to.   Was thinking maybe glove box.  Did you build a box to keep it dry?

I am open to hearing all these good ideas!  More!   I actually like the wheelbarrow idea, too.  Might just look into that.

Pal of mine suggested leave it under the dash just have the wires looong enough to uncoil and pull up so you can see what your doing. When finished just coil and put a tie wrap around it.

Just do'in stuff that FoMoCo shoulda been do'in all along.  What SANE person would put a tiny little fuse box UNDER the dash and BEHIND the steering wheel??!......In the dark!

Re: More F100 work

Attach the fuse panel to a plate and attach the plate to someplace under the dash on a hinge. Put quick disconnects (Dzus fasteners) on the other side of the hinged plate. When you need to get to it unclick it and let it swing down access the fuses, etc. it's out of the way and visibility and available when you need to access it.....

Re: More F100 work

Well, sal...  if you use all three bolts to hold your Grant steering wheel wheel on, and if you don’t pinch major wires between the turn signal switch and the column, and if you properly route wires so they don’t come loose, get chafed or otherwise short out, you very rarely, if ever, need to access a fuse box!

The only time I have ever had a fuse blow was when I was careless while working on something electrical.  Can’t remember one ever blowing while just driving along.

But, to add to your positional complaints, on a 66 with Vintage Air, you also have to remove the driver side air duct and vent register in order to access the fuse block.  And that is a major PITA.

Got the hood mounted today. Still needs some final adjustment once the inner fenders are in there.  Cab comes off next.
