1967/1968 Mustang Gauges ------- Tach

Hi guys,

I'd like to eventually put in a large Original Tach (or at least one with a face that looks original/like ford gauges).....

So my big question is, what size is the factory faceplate, and do they make aftermarket gauges to fit?  More importantly, is a there fsceolates or does the Rally-Pac Tach fit?

I saw reproduction Tachs selling for $800-1000Can!  That's disgusting

Re: 1967/1968 Mustang Gauges ------- Tach

Unless you really have an all original car I would not spend $1 on original gauges.  The factory tach requires dedicated wiring because it doesn't work the way a modern tach does.

You aren't going to get an aftermarket gauge that's a direct bolt in for the factory gauges, but there are several that are close enough if you don't mind some fabrication.  There area  lot of gauges where the faces look period correct for these cars.

Re: 1967/1968 Mustang Gauges ------- Tach

The factory Tach cluster will be an expensive adventure if you don't have one already. The Tach looks to be a 67-68 only item. The metal frame housing and wiring is different from the gauge cluster too. I have been told the Tach from a T bird around that era was very similar.

If you can find a complete unit that doesn't work, that would be a good route to take. Rocket Man Classic Cougars can convert the tach movement to work like a modern tach for $200 or less depending on the RPM range. There is a cluster listed on E bay at the moment with a $250 starting bid. The face plate is wrong though, it should have lights for oil and alternator.

Retrofitting modern gauges will likely be a more cost effective path.

It won't be a large tach, but Rocketman and others offer a mini tach that fits in the small gauge pod of the instrument cluster.
