Rear window gasket removal

Here I am again, a 1964 Falcon owner, and loyal Mustang Steve follower. Can someone offer suggestions to remove a rear windshield gasket that is dried out and super hard? I cannot find any info on YouTube for the Falcon rear window. Mustangs are covered somewhat better. I think the clips are different or nonexistent on the Falcon.

Re: Rear window gasket removal

Tommy 2x 4,

Try this method I use an extra strength razor knife from Home Depot
I cut the top of the weatherstrip where it rolls over the window glass
When you have the rubber removed spray a can of silicone around entire edge of window
Next use a plastic putty knife around edge of glass
Now the window should be free to push out from inside of car.
Steele Rubber should have new rear window gasket.
Be careful when pushing out of car you don't want a pile of small glass pieces.

Re: Rear window gasket removal

Exactly same as what cman66 said.  Do not pry against the glass with anything or it will explode.  Just push it out from inside once you cut and remove the rubber part of the gasket that overlaps the glass.  Once the glass is out, the rest is just cleanup.

Re: Rear window gasket removal

The window came out with few problems, following the advice posted. I did not need the silicone, although I did have a can on hand. Thank you both.
