Concerning my mysterious vibration: I replaced the fuel filter (nope!)...I replaced the spark plugs (nope!) motor/engine mount (nope!)...I replaced the exhaust system (nope!)....replaced the Tranny crossmember (nope!)....replaced the Tranny rubber mount(nope!).....raised the Tranny up higher (nope!).replaced the rear U-joint (nope!)......Had the rear yoke replaced WITH new U-joint AND the drive shaft STRAIGHTENED and balanced(ding-ding-ding!) Money-shot!!!!
Ding-Dong-the-witch (with a B)-is-DEAD!!!! NO MO vibration!! Car hasn't felt this good in a LONG while!! Fun to drive it again. My confidence is slowly starting to build in it again.

Drove it down to the garage (guy lets me use the lift on Saturdays!) to weld an exhaust leak; about a mile maybe. Started vibrating JUST LIKE BEFORE!
Upon examination the rear u-joint was "eat-slap-up" JUST LIKE BEFORE!
........(short version).....The C-clip/lock clip thingy on the u-joint was interfering with the rear yoke. Quick call to Glen Busek (mustang rebuilder/restorer extraordinaire) who sez....."you don't need them friggen-clips, $hitcan'em" "We don't us'em because the yoke holds the joint in place"!
FIXED-IT!!
My question is........why'd they putt'em on the joint if you don't need'em??!
3 u-joints later!!!!!
'Nuther question.... wonder why the release bearing is SUPPOSE to spin all the time on a T-5 set up?? Only make sense it will wear out quicker!!
The thrash continues!!

Well that is certainly good news. Now go break, I mean fix something else.

Congratulations!!!
I can only guess what it must be like to drive it the first time with no vibration.
My new differential arrives Monday. Hope to duplicate your elations some time next week.

That's great news Mike! Looks like Alessandro has solved his as well. Now if MS has found the cure for his, it'll be a trifecta.
Of course, two of them are cheaper than the third.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
