For us people that live in areas where water does freeze, what are you running for antifreeze in the cooling system?
I have been using Shell Rotella ELC for quite a few years.
Just curious.

Not worried about freezing around here!!!! I do want the increase on the boiling point and protection of the radiator over plain water. And I buy the house brand non diluted from O'Reilly's.

50-50 Prestone and distilled water

50/50 NAPA brand green in my '67 and WRX. I run Fleetcharge ELC 50/50 with distilled in my F250 Diesel. FJ Cruiser requires Toyota specific coolant. I've got a menagerie on my shelf.

Were I live it only gets cold enough to really NEED anti freeze once every 100 years or so.
I buy what's on sale and mix it approx. 50/50 with distilled water. That's the important part...distilled water! It dramatically reduces the rusting issues and the anti freeze is more of a lubricant for the water pump.
No worrys, mates.......of it getting below freezing during the Bash-at-the-Beach this April 23-24-25th!!
Soooooooooo come on down!!! (and drive your classic Mustangs,IF you can)

Antifreeze is also an anti corrosive. Plus it raises the boiling point of straight water, though water is in fact a better heat transfer medium. Still, shouldn't run straight water, distilled or otherwise.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
