Ok finished the new alinement today. Had to recheck/do because we installed 3/8 coil spring seats on top. Looks like we have +4 deg caster and -.5 deg camber, and about 1/16 toe.
Now it is time to load the trunk and get out of dodge. I need this vacation

Drive safe everyone, and Chris, retighten your upper control arm nuts after that great wheel alignment.
Stop in CO on the way, and get RV6 to re-retighten them.

Just a word to those who are driving cars that have been sitting for a long time, or if you have no historical knowledge of the wheel bearings.
It is my policy when I buy an old Mustang to change all wheel bearings. Front ones are easy enough to check and repack, but bearings do have a finite life. And they are cheap. Just don’t let Bearing Bob torque them for you. (Ask him at the bash how he got his name).
Unless a rear bearing is in terrible shape, it is nearly impossible to determine its condition unless you pull the axle and actually feel the bearing. And, if you have gone that far, just install a new one and have the peace of mind knowing you won’t have a failure on the highway. Plus, it gives you a reason to go buy a press if you don’t already own one. TOOLEXCUSE!
Enjoy your seat time! Nothing compares to cruising in an old Mustang on a long distance trip.

Actually Barry, that was FlamingPony who snugged my nuts up for me...never gave another problem. But I'm sure RV6 would be up to the task also.
Since I made my "super shims" I haven't had any more trouble but I have a special wrench and I check 'em pretty regular.

That will be one hell of a drive to the Bash!
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
