    Yes 6sally6 this is true we do rust lol. OK we got the heat wave of 80 today so out I went driving and idling. Last week before the shroud we were at 205 @ 73 degs outside idling for 6 min. Building the shroud works. After setting in the driveway for 15 minutes  the temp went to 192 and then just sat there. I had the AC blasting. I gave up because I drank my beer and I couldn't get the car hop to bring out another. Last night i did click my Autocoolguy fan controller down one more , I have 2 more clicks left tell max cool. I think we are done here. Now there is nowhere to go again.

    That looks very clean, Chris.  I hope is solves the problem.  When you do rebuild the engine pay very close attention to cleaning the water jackets...I believe that is the cause of a lot of heating trouble.

    yes I agree. Somthing I have been thinking about for some time. I feel we have at best got it cooling for now.  I think it would of made the trip but would have been its last. So with the new motor this fall we will be set. When I get a littles closer I will run the motor by everyone, then by parts. As soon as this pooh pooh ends we are going to do t trip up to Montana to see family about 1500 mile round trip that should be fine, it will also give me a good Idea how we are sitting. I think I got my tight steering fixed. Im waitting for my Fastrax I bought from tremendouswand to arrive so i can tweek the alinement, made some nice toe tools. All and all car is preaty good. Also plan on rewiring it this fall too. I have a gremlin

    must update, today 81 @ noon puttin to the stores Im holding temp (190-195 max) very nicely. Even bumped the autocoolguy back one click with AC cranked, now have 3 to max cool. Dont really need the AC but it keeps the wifes hair out of her eyes.

    Not sure-of-this-cure butt..........I did it to my "old Shivel-lay" S-10 and it seems to have hoped.
    Drained all the water outta the radiator(looked like I cut an artery! )  and filled it with white vinegar. Drove it around a couple days and flushed it out with the hose-pipe. (Paid particuliar attention to the heater hoses/heater core.) Refilled with distilled water and anifreeze.
    End of over-heating issues!!!
    Although I DID have an over-whelming desire for a salad with balsamic vinegarette the next several days?!! Strange...

    Thats an Idea, I can have SBF with dinner. I can try it i have a ne heater cor/AC and new radiaror with a newer water pump so I will stay out of the heater and rad.

    I used oxyalic acid to clean cooling system.
    Then used baking soda to neutralize afterwards.

    I found this tip online from some old timers, no offense BB.
    You can find it in hardware stores in paint area as I recall.

    I find flushing a cooling system is a lot more effective if you remove the plugs in the bottom of the block above the oil pan rail and install some petcocks.  You can connect some clear vinyl tubing to those to direct water flow into a catch pan.  You'd be surprised what comes out of those drains even on a cooling system you thought was clean.  The problem with the cooling system is that junk sits in areas where it doesn't get much flow; the water tends to just flow around it on a path of least resistance.  That junk eventually creates both a barrier to heat transfer and reduces the volume of the cooling system. 

    On most of my domestic made vehicles and every engine I build I swap those plugs for petcocks because it makes life easier for future servicing.

    ran the car for Mothers day. it go 87 ouside. drove hom and sat in driveway again for few minutes. Not going above 192 infact sometimes now it starts to drop. i am going to hold off on the flush as I think the shroud was the ticket.
