Some of you may not have seen these before. I know didn't untill I stumbled upon ah pic of them on line. I guess they were installed on 69-70 mustangs. The only place I could find that sells them is CJ pony..

Yeah!
I did know about them. I bought some myself to put on my convertible. I keep them on the "shelf of stuff to install" I also got mine form CJ pony. Im not sure how much they ultimately will help, but they are nice stout pieces. If you are going to go to put torque boxes on a car that didnt originally have them, might as well add these pieces too!
Lookin good

Yeah I'm not sure they'll be of much support. But it's just another one of those things I figure i should do while I've got it on the rotisserie. They took me all of 20 minutes to do so what the heck..

My torque boxes came with them, but I got later model and they are a bit different.

I dont know if you remember all the pics a poster named JEM posted of his convertible, anyways,
He made a support that went from the OUTER shock tower to the upper outer cowl. When I saw those gussets, I had the idea of that, plus another one down to that gusset.
Then I though.....that might actually ADD to the cowl shake.
Im going to put the gussets on still, however.

Derek, the torque boxes and braces look really good.
WYAI - read the following article about some other things you might want/need to do to stiffen up the Mustang platform. The items mentioned are easily done with the car on the rotisserie, or on the ground. Especially if the engine has not been installed yet. www.sancospecialties.com/mustang.HTM
Good Luck
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
