Boots are torn up on the lower ball joints and there are no replacements available for the boots or just the ball joints. I hate to spend $100 each for new LCA (and the good units seem to be getting much harder to find) needing only a stupid boot but would be willing to spend a little for a replacement ball joint.
I thought I remember seeing something long ago about a replacement ball joint that was not necessarily for the Mustang LCA - but can't find it and don't remember what it was or where I saw it.
Wondering if anyone knows what ball joint might fit the LCA without too much work - or if the 3-bolt upper ball joints might work. The LCAs I have use the big plate that holds the ball joint and extends back to the strut rod holes. I would have no issues cutting the ball joint out of the plate if that's what's needed.
TIA

John, cjpony shows lower ball joint boots with part number HW1117.
See if that will solve your problem

You could try this from Rock Auto.
FYI...according to their website, what you should receive is in picture.
I noticed description includes arm.

1965 fastback 289 under dash harness removal
How much disassembly required to remove and replace the under dash harness?
Is it a big job or fairly straightforward?
Thanks, John

On the index screen look to the right, there's a tab marked "new topic" above the first thread. Click that and start your own thread. Welcome.

Thanks but no. I bit the bullet and bought a set of Moog LCAs from NPD (and just found out that MOOG stopped making them in April).
I don't know if that's good or bad. The last ones I bought (not Moog) lasted 18 years, and they're still good except for the boots being toast. The new ones will probably outlive me.

I'm going to go with bad, its going to mean that the LCAs from here forward will be made in China and be crap. In a couple years we'll all probably be advocating rebuilding your stock arms to avoid having to buy the Chinese junk.
Of course I say that and have no idea where mine came from. They were part of a Mustangs Plus kit I bought 25 years ago. They've held up just fine with the kind of mileage I put on the car. They too will likely outlive me.

Mine also came in a kit - from John's Mustang - bought in 2002.
After I ordered the Moogs I found out that Open Tracker sells a set that have replaceable ball joints for less cost than the Moog units I bought. I wish I'd looked a little harder before I committed to buy the Moogs but que sera sera.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
