Im asking this for a friend who is still in the analog era.
Car Mustang 71 mach 1 . Rebuild ford Power steering pump , ford hoses Borgeson steering box.
Fluid used ATF
3 Days ago my friend noticed a leak fron the seal to the pitman arm. When he was out driving and making a full turn, power steering was lost for a few second, Then it came back, and it was going so back and forth.
When turning the Wheel full right the pump screams, and the leak from the pitman arm is more obvious.
Its like air gets trapped inside. He flushed the system with power steering fluid not ATF(that he has been running 2 years since the box was new) but still the samr problems.
My guess is:
ATF has eaten the rubber seal inside that create the leak( I have alwys run GM powersteering fluid in mine). Debris could be stuck in the pump(valve if it has one) or the steering box valve. But if it is air in the system where does it come from, no other leaks or so.
There is not much info about the Borgesons boxes. Is there a rebuild kit/seals ?
Regards Rob

Borgeson calls for power steering fluid, not ATF. Every time I've read about a box leak from one they were running ATF, usually because they insisted on retaining a Ford pump. If fluid can get out, air can get it.
I'd call Borgeson and ask about a new seal.

When I installed mine back in '15 I called Borg and they said that ATF and the Ford pump would work fine. Well, it did for about 10K miles then it leaked just like your friend's. Borg sent the seals but I elected to not attempt to pull the box apart and returned it to Borg for the re-seal.
Now I use PS fluid but still use the Ford pump after a good flush. So far it works just fine and boost on the steering seems perfect.
