Re: Shocking

Still running KYBs.  I'm quite happy with them.  I know several guys on here run the Bilsteins and really like them.  What I'll say is that if the springs aren't matched to the car/type of driving you do the shock's job is a lot harder.

Re: Shocking

I've only ever had KYB's, so can't really compare. I'm very happy with the KYB's on my car. It handles pretty well and I don't even have the Shelby drop.

Re: Shocking

I’m can’t complain about the way my car handles, like Stevo I have no Arning drop and as for my springs, the rears are stock and the fronts as well with a half coil removed.
I and my wife have had a couple of sphincter tightening situations and in those cases the car performed admirably, we both kept it between the ditches.
There is a lot of hoopla on how fantastic the Bilstiein shocks are, but are they $750 Cdn a set wonderful.

Re: Shocking

I ran KYB's in the front and unknown in the rear that had springs around them. A very nice gentleman on the forum offered me a slightly used set of Bilstein shocks for all four corners. How could I resist?

Anywho, I installed, I drove and I could not believe the difference. I really like the Bilstein shocks.

Thank you, Bolted to Floor.

Re: Shocking

Being the clever guy that I am, I bought a set for $400usd on a trip to the States ... get called outta the lounge at LAX, and get told that they can't fly. Hadta' toss'em into a bin.
Get back to Oz, and bought another set here for $600+
That could be why I've gotta be happy with them ... But I really am. $750 is a bargain to some people.

Glad you like’em Gary. It was a rougher ride than what I wanted.

Re: Shocking

Which version of KYB’s?

For over 25 years I had the Gas-A-Just on all front and rear.
Used with Mustangs Plus 1-1/8” front sway and 3/4” rear sway.
Last year I removed and sold the rear sway bar....too much oversteer.
620 springs in front and 5 leaf mid-eye.

The Gas-A-Just are too stiff for average potholed or washboard roads.
You’ll skim over the bumps...even with 235/60/14 BFG’s.

I would definitely perform the Shelby drop.
If you like the way it handles now, it will be even better after.
I waited way too long to do mine.

Which front springs do you have?
Stock rating? Or actually stock 50 years?

Re: Shocking

Good old Monroe matics.  Front end doesn't float/motorboat going down the road........no rear wheel hop "when-I-pin-it"......no fillings have fallen out when going over a rough road(like in Michigan! WOW!! ).....cheap enough to replace every few years (or not)....since I don't slalom ....gets on & off the off ramps .....'very smartly'.

Re: Shocking

I always loved Gabriel Striders.  They were adjustable, so I could change the stiffness when I chose to.  However they are no longer manufactured.  They were also the shocks on 68 Shelby's.  I've had a number of others since then, but none work as well.  Currently, I have KYB GR4's  All I can say is that they work.  I'm not too impressed, but not totally unhappy either.
