Re: Drilling a timing cover for dipstick.

I've never heard of a water pump works spinning either direction.  The impeller is directional.  I'm not sure how you could even make a multi directional impeller.  I would stick with a water pump advertised as reverse rotation if you are using a Fox serpentine accessory drive.  The one I run is from GMB.  Same a Milodon except the Milodon had a disc welded to the back of the impeller.  Five minutes of fab work and a couple spot welds made them the same, and cost $40 less than the Milodon one.

Re: Drilling a timing cover for dipstick.

If that timing cover was original to the engine, it's not a Fox setup. The 94-95 (and I guess, Explorer) setup uses a short water pump to fit the new SN95 body.
None of the front dress interchange. Was this a running combination when you got it? Post a pic of the front bracketry. Unfortunately, if it's 94-95, the A/C compressor doesn't fit.

Re: Drilling a timing cover for dipstick.

The engine was running and driving in the Fox body when I bought it. I have looked at some parts on ebay and I find that the crank pulley is definately NOT a mustang pulley. The pulley sits flush on the harmonic balancer unlike the mustang pulleys which have an offset from the balancer. By measuring this offset, I find that the pulleys should actually line up if I fit the correct mustang pulley. Now I just need to find a CCW water pump or fit V belt pulleys instead of the serpentine belt. I will let you know how it turns out.

Re: Drilling a timing cover for dipstick.

It looks like a 96-01 Explorer 5.0 pump and frt cover.Looked parts up on parts store site and they look like what you have.
